Checking in at international airport.

That cant possibly work, once you clear immigration you are in a part of the airport thats technically outside of thailand, how would you get to the domestic gates that are inside Thailand, you would be re-entering Thailand. The same at the other end, the OP will be landing at BKK domestic with everyone else on the plane, no immigration between him and Thailand.

Catch any domestic flight in Thailand you dont go through immigration to get on or off the plane.

The international departure area of the airport is NOT “technically outside of Thailand”. It is just a zone restricted to employees and passengers who have cleared passport control. Why don’t you stop by the duty free for some shoplifting? What countries law applies? This misunderstanding hand in glove with the old bar-stool nonsense “The US embassy in Bangkok is US soil” .

Though not at phuket airport SWMBO and I have cleared immigration at KK airport onto a domestic flight and been escorted directly through to international departures.

It may not in the OPs case as he has to be able to Check-in for his international flight in Phuket, and it's on a separate ticket.

 

However some airlines, AirAsia is one, offer flythrough tickets. I have used them KKC DMK NRT on several occasions clearing immigration in Khon Kaen, onto the domestic flight to DMK then international to NRT, I did not go through immigration in DMK.

 

The reverse is not permitted by AirAsia though your bags can be checked through to your destination on the flythrough ticket (separate international baggage claim in KKC) you still have to be stamped into Thailand at DMK, this may well be true for other  airlines.

Phuket has two separate terminals, one for domestic and one for international so not quiet the same as KK airport that only has one terminal and only flights to other airports inside thailand. Last time I looked there are no international flights arriving or departing KKC.

You don't have to have an international flight departing from the airport to to clear Thai immigration at the airport. All our flights where we cleared immigration in Khon Kaen were domestic to DMK

 

So you still don't understand that.

 

Yes you can clear immigration at a regional airport,

 

no you don't have to board an international flight at the regional airport after clearing immigration 

 

That having a separate international terminal does not prevent you doing that.

 

I don't know that Phuket is a fly-thru airport, I haven't checked, it is very likely that it is as the prime requirement is that there is an immigration officer available at the regional airport.

Just to get some clarification i will give Thai airways a call tomorrow ????

Maybe that is better then some of the advise here.

I'm almost curtain i can check-in at the international terminal as Thai and Qatar has a interline agreement so the luggage should be labeled through.

and if that is the case i also should be able to do the immigration clearance at Phuket.

 

Besides the price difference i don't use the HKT-DOHA Qatar flight is that i don't want to have a 20 hours transfer in Doha for my connecting flight.

Yes, it is as you say.

I have flown HKT - BKK an then Japan using one ticket and two tickets with different airlines. If baggage is cleared all the way to destination, then immigration at HKT. If baggage only to BKK and another checkin is required, immigration is at BKK. Though, sometimes, very rarely, baggage can be checked through to final destination, but, a boarding pass cannot be issued for the final leg. In this case, immigration is done after the final checkin.

Just a update as i called Thai Airways office yesterday.

I can check-in at the international terminal and tag my luggage to Europe and do the immigration clearance in Phuket.

As long my transit time in BKK is no more then 6 hours.

A update for the interested people ????

Flying out was not a problem, Thai Airways routed the bags at Phuket Airport all the way to Amsterdam and provided the boarding passes for all flights.

Immigration was done at Phuket.

 

The return flight did not work in the same way.

Qatar refused to label the luggage all the way to Phuket as according to them they don't have a agreement with Thai Airways.

I tried to convince them that Qatar has a interline agreement with Thai Airways but unfortunately i was unsuccessful.

Therefore i had to collect my luggage at Bangkok and after clearing immigration and customs i had to check-in and check-in the luggage for my flight to Phuket.

Sure check-in staff was stoned as hell in AMS 555. Asked for supervisor?

 

Can't remember when was last time that i had to pick up luggage in BKK maybe 1996.

Also you do not have one consecutive booking, but two separate.

If that is indeed true, how did Thai International check the baggage on to a Qatar airlines flight on the outward bound portion, even on separate tickets?

So far i know luggage interline agreements are separate from alliances.

Many airlines tag the luggage for other connecting flights even from different alliances as long they have a interline agreement which Thai and Qatar have.
