Senior Chinese official, Prayut agree  to develop cooperation on several fronts

The visiting Communist Party secretary of Guangdong province, Li Xi, shakes hand with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha at Government House.

Thailand and China have agreed to forge closer cooperation in many areas, as the countries set their sights on increasing bilateral trade, investment and tourism.

The visiting Communist Party secretary of Guangdong province, Li Xi, discussed the matter with Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha when calling on the premier at Government House on Monday.

Both sides agreed to enhance Thai-Guangdong trade, with a target of US$140 billion (Bt4.38 trillion) of annual bilateral commerce by 2021, Deputy Government Spokesman Weerachon Sukondhapatipak said.

They also talked about further cooperation in a number of other areas, including education, science, innovation and technology, he said.

Li, who is also a member of the Communist Party’s central Politbureau, praised Prayut for strengthening relations between Thailand and China during the five years of his premiership.

Prayut emphasised the Thai government’s intention to strengthen cooperation with China.

Earlier, Li and his delegation held a discussion with Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak about the two nations’ relationship and cooperation.

The objectives of the meeting were to negotiate about business linkage between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and the development of bilateral ties.

Li said President Xi Jinping’s concept of socialism was based on people and emphasised innovation, balance, environmental well-being, liberalisation and sharing.

Guangdong province aims to develop the GBA into a world-class city cluster and centre of technology innovation, Li said.

Thailand and Guangdong province have many similarities in matters such as culture, geography and society, he added.

“We are willing to share our development opportunities about the GBA and support the EEC strategy. Our cooperation is to fulfil our countries’ interests,” Li stressed.

“Thailand has had a long, trustful relationship with China, and we are willing to cooperate [further] with China,” Somkid said.

Who the hell dressed Prayut? least they had a sense of humour! :shock1:

Looking at the creases in his trousers I think he may have a bit of a boner at the thought of the swill being topped up in the trough.

I believe these meetings with the Chinese are a sign to things to come for Thailand...appears Thailand is being groomed to become a vassal state with a military strongman as puppet leader...getting and needing direction and approval from Big Brother Comrade...

Chinese are like a python...wrap their arms around a nation in order to squeeze the life and unique identity out of that country...

While in China last year, there were places the only way to pay was with WePay, part of the WeChat application.   That and virtually nothing related to Google would work.  How long before China extends their full reaching control to financial and communications in the AEC group of nations, with Thailand leading the band?

Oh yea, this is definitely a sign of things to come.

PS. I removed WeChat from my phone yesterday after the latest version required it run in the background 24x7.  It's bad enough with all the surveillance going on in the world today, including the USA, to also have China tracking our every move. Geez.....

Kind of like Vietnam (commie state no elections and such) but they aren't having much luck there or in Hong Kong for that matter right now.  If they couldn't make it work in Vietnam or Hong Kong what makes them think Thailand will be any different?

Vietnam has resisted Chinese domination for centuries...Hong Kong is a cash cow that will not be overtly molested...

Thailand...on the other hand...is ripe for plucking...the Chinese are patient...no hurry...they figure most of SE Asia will be flying the Chinese flag along with their own in not too distant future...

Exactly!

That's why I'm typing this on my third Chinese made one now. The letters fade away within a year.

If only I could find someone else who produced a Thai keyboard.

Can you see protests in Thailand like the recent mass demonstration in Hong Kong, happening? I can't.

Not when you deal with China for infrastructure support. Mostly with Chinese and China you are always inundated to the extent you are owned or suffocate.

I keep contact with martial artists, including those that travel. Time and time again I hear that although the Chinese martial arts are always worth seeing the regime never gets a thumbs up. Some have said that although they would like to visit again, they won't. I've said the same on a similar recent thread here. I would like to keep a close eye on this apparent Thai 'inclination' towards China.

He does so much love to be in uniform and give orders, will find it harder without 44.

Should read

"Senior Chinese officials from China and Thailand make worthless agreement to develop cooperation on several fronts"
