Mailing a Guitar via Postal Service

Featured Replies

I would like to mail (C Mai to Phuket) an inexpensive guitar, inside a Cardboard box (from a guitar store), but the nice gentleman at the Thai P Office insisted that the guitar would get broken and recommended not sending via Thai P. O.  I expect a courier service would be too expensive and am curious how guitar shops mail and receive guitar boxes daily in Thailand. Has anyone mailed a guitar in Thailand, in a soft case, packaged well, in a thick cardboard box? any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks Vinnie, Based on your experience, what would you guesstimate Kerry would charge to mail an acoustic guitar (Ovation copy) in a box from C Mai to Phuket.....Do you think it would definitely be over 300 baht?

You need to have the guitar packed properly before you ship it! None of the couriers or the postal service will accept the guitar if it is not packed properly.

You said that you only have the gig bag and no hard-shell case? You will need to have a box constructed from double-walled cardboard and lined with foam. There is a very good place in front of the main post office on the road going to San Kampaeng (from the city it's before the train station). You go inside the tire shop and in the back they build professional shipping boxes. I've been going there for 12 years.

You could use Kerry or Nim SeeSeng or any of the couriers - there are many.

Agree with this advice. I have had numerous guitars shipped in a strong cardboard box wrapped with plenty of bubble wrap via postal services. Never a problem. If the guitar is rare or expensive I would consider buying a hard case as they are cheap enough here
