Yes I know that this Pattaya centric, but for your info, my friend reports to Korat immigration, they have a rule that no shorts, T shirts or flip flops are allowed, Tailored or Polo shirts and long trousers and proper shoes only.

I have previously presented myself at Jomtien wearing tailored shorts and a Polo shirt or tailored shirt, now I will dig out my long trousers and dress as they request, no big deal really, and yes there are some scruffy buggers that get in there, some look as though they haven't showered for a week or had a shave and perleees the guys of 60 + with Grey hair, ponytails & earrings, sheesh.

I always wear Calvin Klein. And they are not fake. Thais know the difference.

Most expats here look like tramps, so good luck with that.

Its a freak show with foreigners on the streets , at the borders and Immigration. Seen this at the borders and immigration more than once. And then they wonder why they are treated badly. dress for success . how much effort does that take? dress like a sloppy pig and expect no respect from the locals.

I totally agree and the foreign women are no better. They often look like they crawled out of a dumpster or girly bar.

You might look like a tramp (after all your location states Rayong) so why lump yourself in with the great unwashed ? Or are you not an expat or are you a HiSo expat, you send confusing messages sunshine.

What exactly are you confused about? I am an expat but I dress smartly, unlike the vast majority. Clear now?

And it does make a very big difference. Dressing like a slob sends a message that you are disrespecting the Thai people.

Incredible that I still see farangs wearing shorts and tee shirts to immigration and especially to the bank to open accounts.

Given the legend that you are NCC they should be affording you you're own private entrance and air conned office to do the formalities ..

Thai don't do smart casual. Shorts and tee shirts are for poor people.

Utter nonsense. Of course you can still look smart in shorts and a t-shirt, have you seen how much smart t shirts and shorts cost? Multi millionaires all over the world wear shorts and t shirts in summer months. Clearly you are the old fashioned type.

So when you state " Most expats look like tramps" what percentage would that be?, just concerned that you lump anyone you don't know into this bracket or is it just another empty reply with no substance ? Do you have proof of your statement ? No, I thought not, you need to be careful walking around with your nose in the air (snobbish) you tend to bump into lampposts and tread in dogsh!te ????

I see foreigners like this everywhere. One nationality wins the prize for men and another for women. I have see foreign women here showing more skin than the Thai P's . And then they wonder why are the Thai men following them.

Looks like I've touched a nerve. I'm sorry you don't agree with me, never mind. And to answer your question I would say 80-90% of expats are scruffy. That comes from being here for 20 years and living in different cities.

I must frequent the "right" areas then, as I see the odd scruff bag, but not many at all

Friend of mine was turned away at Phuket imm a few years ago for wearing shorts, not trousers. I hate wearing trousers socks and shoes because as soon as I put them on, I'm sweating like a cocaine junkie with a blocked nose.

You are correct at least 80% to 90%. When i see a foreigner that does Not look like they crawled out of a dumpster i go out of my way to ask them where they are from. Anyone want to take a guess of the majority of foreigners come from that DO NOT look like pigs everywhere they go. The majority are embarrassing to be around. One reason i avoid the foreign slums of Thailand and Laos.

Please read the OP again. Recommendation, and will not be turned away was some key points. All other things are perfectly alright. Most of us would dress in the right way for entering a government office in our home countries, why not show the same respect here too?

You are completely missing the point.

If it doesn't help a flawed application, there is no point!

Focus on getting the application right, and forget the ironing board.

No argument about showing respect, stylish shorts are seen in many places, including first class lounges

Considering that I live close to Sodom & Gomorrah and mix with a variety of different expats with equally different origins, UK, Aus, NZ, Germany, USA, Canada, well nearly the whole of Europe I have yet to find 1 unkempt untidy unwashed expat, so I refute your 80% to 90% as total hogwash, I have been here for close on 8 years and visited for many years prior to retiring here, so please don't lump us into the same basket.

I think you may have been observing short time holiday makers not your typical expat.

Mmmm, I think you and I must have a different grasp on what scruffy is.

Because most foreigners have the "I don,t give a S%#T what the Thais think" attitude and then wonder why they have problems everywhere they go.

No worries mate, maybe I am being a little harsh. Btw, I don't judge scruffy gi*s (unless ridiculously scruff ie holes in clothes, wear vests etc) a few of my friends here are scruff bags, it's just how they are. I've always liked clothes, just the way I am.

My wife is a immigration cop in KK and the stories she can tell about the state of dress???? of some farangs is just plain embarrassing. And they wonder why they get a hard time. Some also attend stinking of booze- not real smart on either counts.

Scandalous, she goes to the beach in a bikini!

Better than swimming full gear with clothes, it's a hygenic no no and forbidden in pretty much every western pool for a reason.

You guys should stop being stuck in medival age, it's 2019, even in Thailand.
