This topic is relevant to the advantages of speaking Thai thread. 

I assume that most of the officials we meet whose job it is to deal with foreigners are English speakers and have certificates to prove it. There are many things which Immigration wants me to do which are illogical but which I can not debate because of my deficiency in Thai.   Try this scene: 

Immigration: โอ้ พูดภาษาไทยได้หรือ 

Me: ได้ครับ แต่นิดหน่อย ถ้ามีเรื่องที่ยากที่เข้าใจได้ ก็จำเป็นต้องกลับใช้ภาษาอังกฤษครับ 

 

Do you think that that could be taken as a threat sufficient to make my journey through the system as smooth as possible?
