BANGKOK, 13 July 2019 (NNT) - A free marijuana guarantee is a major policy of the Bhumjaithai Party as promised to the people in the party’s electoral campaign. The Bhumjaithai Party which is in charge of the Ministry of Public Health will continue to make an all-out effort to promote medical uses of marijuana as part of the government’s policy.

In a workshop organized by the Bhumjaithai Party and entitled ’’marijuana changes the world’’, Public Health Minister and Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul has reconfirmed his party’s free marijuana policy, saying he will continue to push for the legalization of marijuana.

The public health minister assured the public that marijuana would not be promoted for recreational purposes but added that it could be used in medical treatments and health care and help reduce medical costs. He said he wasn’t serving the interests of any pharmaceutical manufacturer. He claimed that the free marijuana policy had already been included in government policy which is to be officially announced by the prime minister. He said marijuana could become a cash crop for the people.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the Department of Health and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine of the Ministry of Public Health, and members of the public, including many who support the free marijuana policy.

Dr. Thirawat Hemajutha, a lecturer at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine, said a patient may pay as much as 30,000-40,000 baht monthly for some medicines produced by private firms while cannabis oil can be medically used for only 400-500 baht. He said the free marijuana policy can be useful to impoverished people and is the property of all Thai people.

Is this what they meant by bringing happiness to the people?

Saving ฿20K a month and using a medication with no negative side effects would make me happier.

A cash crop for the people and a cash cow for the government. Who would oppose that?

Photo-Ops then back to foot-dragging.
