‘No debate’ in July 25 session, Prayut insists of policy unveiling

Apparently wary of possible opposition objections when he formally sets out government policy in a parliamentary session on July 25, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday warned that it would not be a no-confidence debate.

Newly returned to the premier’s office, Prayut said he had on many occasions observed MPs post-election venture beyond their assigned roles.

“The session [on July 25] is not about the House discussing the previous government’s performance,” he said.

Asked about much-anticipated amendments to the Constitution introduced by the military junta he led, Prayut said no progress had been made by the coalition parties.

The direction towards future charter amendments would be clearer after his government announced its policies, he said.

Is that a last minute section 44 ruling?

He never stops laying down the law, does he? His law, of course.
I for one am heartily sick of all this. It's blindingly obvious that nothing is going to change in a major way. He (and his lot) still do whatever they want.
It's all hopeless - utterly hopeless - unless the Thai people decide enough is enough.
Still no real sign of that - and not likely to be, so far as I can see ...

No matter what you may personally think of him... give credit where it is due. He pulled off some major political wizardry. 5 years of absolute power and counting...

Wizardry?
Don't you mean thuggery?
All the institutions of state were aligned behind him.
His only foe was the unarmed peasantry.
All Prayuth bought to the picture was a willingness to detain, torture or kill those who dared speak up.
Any idiot dressed in khaki would have sufficed.

The fact that you find 5 years of dictatorship praiseworthy says an awful lot about you.

You bite hard, which says an awful lot about you. What is satire?

I'd like to see them behave like, I think Korea or maybe Taiwan where parliament erupts into an all in riot and fist fight from time to time.

Doesn't acheive much but looks great on the TV.

Yes he is a master of Thai style Military politics but the man is a prehistoric obscurantist not quite bold enough to emerge from behind his gang of armed thugs!

Many coups, many guns. He's made his gun-toting forerunners look like amateurs by comparison. He might have purchased decades of peace at the point of a gun if the last 5 years are anything to go by.

To get the kind of peace the fervent members in here desire, it will take war - and no one wants that and anyone who does is afraid, therefore his style of peace will prevail.
