U.S. topic -- New U.S. ambassador is nominated

Featured Replies

His name is Michael George DeSombre and he's currently living in Hong Kong.

Based on his impressive resume he appears to a political appointee rather than coming in as a career diplomat.

He is the Worldwide President of Republicans Overseas.

Whether he is a good fit to be the U.S. ambassador in Thailand is something I'll leave to others to judge.

One thing is fairly certain though regardless of who is the ambassador -- we won't be getting our embassy income letters back!

That's interesting.  Is he the first political appointee as ambassador to Thailand?  The last two were career diplomats.  I don't know whether Boyce was political or career.

This will be the first political appointment here in 40 years.
