Highway 118 to Chiang Rai

Please be advised that Highway 118 to Chiang Rai will be closed July 22 and 23  between Doi Saket and Maekhachan  to permit unimpeded construction of several bridges.

 

For 2 days, if traveling between Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, you need to find an alternative route.  The Highway 1001/1150 option to Phrao and then rejoin Highway 118 at Wiang Pa Pao is the shortest but for about 26km, is in terrible shape and VERY curvy and hilly.

We have a new road being built in our area and we heard they have stopped some work and sent heavy equipment to help with the 118.  They seem to be making a big push to get that 10 km stretch of the 118 completed, prioritizing it over other roadwork.
