webfact Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Health Ministry ponders reinstatement of about 3,000 traditional medicine practitioners (Photo) Ministry of Public Health Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health will hold a meeting with officials to consider amendments to a new regulation which has led to the disqualification of about 3,000 traditional medicine practitioners, including Mr. Decha Siripat, president of the Kwan Khao Foundation. Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said over the weekend that he had met with Mr. Decha and was aware of the latter’s problem after the Food and Drug Administration on Friday withheld approval of his medicinal cannabis concoction on the grounds that Mr. Decha is not a qualified traditional doctor. He noted that, before the issuance of the new health regulation, Mr. Decha was a qualified traditional doctor but did not meet the additional criteria introduced in the new regulation. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/health-ministry-ponders-reinstatement-of-about-3000-traditional-medicine-practitioners/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2019-07-22 Follow Thaivisa on LINE for breaking Thailand news and visa info 1

JimmyJ Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 "Traditional medicine" = "Medicine" from (thousands to at least hundreds) of years before the germ theory of disease was known and accepted.

Quite obviously 'new regulations were written in order to marginalize traditional medicine practitioners who are in direct competition with powerful, connected, monied interests who want to capitalize on medical marijuana without sharing the profits with the 'commoners.' First they tossed Decha into prison. That didn't work, so they rewrite legislation to push him and other traditional practitioners out of business? There are some incredibly greedy and avaricious people running the show. Hopefully Public Health Minister Anutin is enlightened enough to reinstate these practitioner. He strikes me as being one of the few who are actually interested in the public good. 1
