Prescription for heart and diabetes tablets

Wondering if i can seek some help.

My father went to see a local thai doctor to get some medication with  australian prescriptions and was told he would not give any without seeing a doctor qualified to say it's ok.

Does anyone have any experience on getting started to get the medication in Thailand.

He takes Metroprol,ramipril,lipitor,janumet or metfromin.

Will live in the bush but can make a trip to Khon Kaen if required.

You just have to visit a drug store for most medications in Thailand.  That said not all will be available and brand names may not be the same.  Also doctors here are almost all specialists so might require seeing several for treatment if wanting to use local doctors/medications.  If he staying here long term probably worth doing with a visit to a hospital in KK.  But if you have access to a drug store they should be able to check availability (even if they do not have in stock).

We went to 4 pharmacies in Chumphae and they all said no prescription,no drugs.That was after visiting 2 doctors who would not write a prescription even though he had references for prescriptions from Australian doctors.He has no health issues but been on these tablets for 5 years.

Will ring Bangkok hospital in Khon Kaen tomorrow and see what is required to access the tablets.

None of the drugs you mention require a prescription in Thailand. Though Janumet is very hard to find.

 

Just go to any large Thai pharmacy (not a Boots or Watsons) and give the pharmacist a written list of the meds...sometimes they don't understand English pronouncistion.

 

Usually can find large pharmacy near government hosputal in provincial capital towns.

Just be aware that medications bought from a private hospital are likely to be much more expensive than a large drug store - expect hospital will want him to see doctor and doctor can write down what he needs - no requirement to buy at hospital that way.  Does he really need drugs for no health issues?  At least I hope there is testing being done that indicates their use.

True.  Though Januvia is fairly easy to find, and Metformin is everywhere.

Found a pharmacy who had all the items and was willing to help.
