Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio has praised Thailand for its successful effort to increase the population of wild tigers in the Huai Kha Kheng wildlife sanctuary in Thailand’s western forests.

In his Instagram post, on Global Tiger Day (July 29th), DiCaprio wrote “In Thailand’s Huai Kha Khaeng wildlife sanctuary, tigers are roaring back thanks to a major long-term effort by the government of Thailand, supported by the Wildlife Conservation Society.”

“As a result, tiger numbers in the sanctuary have risen dramatically, from 41 in 2010-11 to 66 today – a more than 60% increase.  In addition, tigers moving beyond the boundaries of the sanctuary are providing a foundation for recovering the population across the entire western forest complex of Thailand, with benefits even spilling across the border into the Taninthayi region of Myanmar.”

Famous Hollywood actor and film producer Leonardo DiCaprio has thanked officials at the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary for their forest protection efforts which contributed to a more than 60-per -cent increase in tiger numbers in the sanctuary.

Thailand’s wild tiger population now stands at 250.

In a post to his personal Instagram account to mark Global Tiger Day on July 29, DiCaprio sent kudos to the sanctuary.

"In Thailand’s Huai Kha Khaeng (HKK) Wildlife Sanctuary, tigers are roaring back thanks to a major long-term effort by the government of Thailand ... As a result, tiger numbers in the sanctuary have risen dramatically, from 41 in 2010-11 to 66 today – a more than 60 per cent increase. In addition, tigers moving beyond boundaries of the sanctuary are providing a foundation for a recovering population across the entire Western Forest Complex of Thailand, with benefits even spilling over across the border into the Taninthayi region of Myanmar.

#GlobalTigerDay," DiCaprio wrote to his 33 million followers.

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, on the third anniversary of the historic Global Tiger Summit in 2013, awarded a $3 million grant to the organisation for a bold initiative to help Nepal double its wild tiger numbers by 2022 – the next Chinese Year of the Tiger.

The actor also joined the WWF campaign on "Save Tigers Now" (http://www.savetigersnow.org/) to raise awareness for the protection of wild tigers. Previous support from the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation also showed major results, growing the number of tigers in Terai’s Bardia National Park from an estimated 18 tigers to 50 as of 2013, according to the WWF.

According to well-known tiger researcher Saksit Simcharoen, Thailand can boast significant success in conserving wild tigers, resulting in 250 tigers roaming the 10 forest complexes across 31 sanctuaries nationwide. He singled out Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary.

The global tiger population is estimated at 3,500 over 13 countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Vietnam and Thailand.

It's the Leonardo love-in. How sweet!

Have enjoyed some of his films, but he's not one of my favorite actors.

Just like to see credit given where it's due. His statements in the OP indicated to me that he was talking from knowledge so I checked him out.

You silly attempt at an insult says more about you than I.

When I read this, I can't help thinking of the forty tiger cub carcasses found in the freezer at the Tiger Temple.  I know that captive animals do not easily adapt to life in the wild but if Thailand actually spent time, money, thought and effort in researching how to help tigers make the change, that would be real progress.

THis week , i saw a docu. You can eat tiger meat in Vietnam. Vietnam and probably more, like Chinese, happy tiger population is increasing.

You can buy rhino horn to drink it in Vietnam. They showed how to take the rhino horn to yourself.

You grind it in a plate, bottom is griniding, with water, then put it in a drink and then drink it.

Involved with this business in Vietnam was a military colonel, he was exposed in secret recordings.

A dangerous under cover operation by a Dutch filmmaker. He was in contact with WNF, as he had to do things he didnt like, but had to do it, to expose.

He exposes more criminal activities in many countries, especially mostly in tourist scammings.

But his time he stepped up to a different level in Vietnam.

With his recording, they will expose government with it.

But does it makes sense? Still many rhino's, elephants are killed.

Guards trying to protect in manual way.

WHy they dont have drones yet to explore easy way lots of areas with infra red? Or one detecting humans

and auto shoot them.

So it doesnt seem to be that urgent.

A carved elephant horn cost about a million dollar, so only the rich are to blame for all.

SO very easy , check all those rich their homes, special team. If found any, take all their belongings.

Stupid Americans (majority) going to Africa to shoot wild just for fun.

Morron Chinese, cutting of fins of sharks for their soup and throwing back the shark after cut of their fins.

From this, there is also a docu about this.

Weird is big companies about protection are screaming about it, some invistigating journalists show and then still nothing is done about it.

how about the homeless in L.A. ? helping those in his own backyard where he makes a living to me would be a better use of his 'stardom' imo, but I don't think it would give him as many 'likes' though, not optically sexy enough - phony f***

Suggestion noted. How about this from history?

"Dear Leader, the autobahn construction is wonderful, getting people back to work and all. And oh, about time you built up the military and ignored the reality of peace versus greed. It's so nice to see happiness returning to the land again. National pride certainly goes a long, long way to redirect focus away from the real issues".

"By the way, it's great that you have impressed someone of importance to lavish praise on your love of the wild animal population, afterall the animals are much more maliable than those pesky people".

Nothing like praise for saving the 4-legged critters, when the 2-legged are not mentioned by celebrity. By the way, the nobodies outnumber the somebodies, hence the real power is wielded by the the nobodies.

They must have stopped "harvesting" body parts at the temples for sale to China ????

Well my 1st thought was, especially after visiting Sri Racha tiger zoo some years ago where tigers are in such numbers that Im sure they r being 'farmed',  is this just a 'front' for the lucrative quack Chinese medicine export market to China and Vietnam?

A strong föhn wind can make snow one foot (30 cm) deep almost vanish in one day[citation needed]. The snow partly melts and partly sublimates[5] in the dry wind. Chinook winds have been observed to raise winter temperature, often from below −20 °C (−4 °F) to as high as 10–20 °C (50–68 °F) for a few hours or days, then temperatures plummet to their base levels. The greatest recorded temperature change in 24 hours was caused by Chinook winds on 15 January 1972, in Loma, Montana; the temperature rose from −48 to 9 °C (−54 to 49 °F).[6]
