According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) as many as 333.2 million smartphones have been sold globally in the second quarter of this year, showing a 2.3 per cent drop from the same period last year but recording a 6.5 per cent rise from this year’s first quarter.

Statistics show that the biggest drop in sales has been in the US and China, though the markets in Asia Pacific, Southeast Asia and India are still growing.

Despite the negative factors from the ongoing US-China trade war, China’s top smartphone producer Huawei is still maintaining its second position, holding a 17.6 per cent market share with 58.7 million units sold during this period, though South Korea’s Samsung is still the champion with 22.7 per cent market share and 75.5 million units sold. Apple comes in third with 10.1 per cent market share and 33.8 million units sold.

IDC analysis also reveals that the top three smartphone market leaders are losing their market share to newcomers like Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions who are enjoying a rise in sales.

Apple has suffered the most, with sales dropping 18.2 per cent in the same period last year from 41.3 million to 33.8 million units sold.

Ill stay with Apple , its never let me down like the others have have.emoji520.png

I'd never use an Android phone given the daily stories about scam Apps. However I have no need of a camera other than a basic one so the obsession with souped-up cameras leaves me cold. If the rumoured Chinese version that retains Touch ID comes about I'd certainly be in the market for it, otherwise I'll be sticking with my iPhone 8 for now, even though my sweaty fingers do remind me that Face ID has its advantages
