Majority of Britons say any Brexit deal should be put to referendum - poll

I don't think there will be a poll- too late for that!  It can only cut two ways imo: leave with 'no deal', or revocation of Article 50.  I wouldn't like to predict which it will be.

It will at least be interesting!

you do realise that only 12% of UK trade is with the EU

and I'm going to guess you are from Scotland - how much of Scotland trade is within the UK

there are some stupid arguments from all sides but one thing is for sure - the UK has an opportunity to increase trade while the EU doesn't

if they want to play hardball then we are up for it, make your cars in the UK or we will impose high tariffs

who wins - everybody wins if a sensible trade deal is sorted out after we leave

I am in 100% support of a trade deal with our EU partners but that is not what this is about, it is about a dangerous power hungry kabal in Brussels that the UK people have rejected, we don't want any part of it

So people have to pay more for a car in the UK?

You understand thats what high tariffs would mean?

They are not paid for by the manufacturer they are paid for by the customer.

The EU, taken as a whole is the UK's largest trading partner. In 2018, UK exports to the EU were £289 billion (46% of all UK exports). UK imports from the EU were £345 billion (54% of all UK imports).

What the poster was saying is that 12% of all UK trade is exports, ie, 88% is generated within the country.  Of that 12%, 48% is with the EU.  It's still a big deal but needs to be seen in context.

When posting, people tend to assume that all that trade with the EU will disappear.  In fact it is more likely to be only somewhat or marginally effected.  Since the referendum the pound has undergone a significant devaluation, such that the relatively small tariffs imposed by the EU would be more than offset.  However, the general disruption such as border checks would undoubtedly dent trade.

UK has already stated that imports from the EU will not be subject to tariffs.

Cars exported from the UK would be subject to EU tariffs.

The big problem is that car parts frequently move to and from the the UK during the process of manufacturing, and would thus incur multiple charges.  This could ruin trade with the EU in this sector, in what is already a shrinking market.
