What ? that NCC1701A got away clean , without the need for antibiotics from Pattaya?

I am sure it matters to NCC1701A, why do you think he wears the dark sunglasses?

And so he should. Embarrasing.

Without a 'Dislike', the only way to show your dislike or disapproval of a post is use of the "Sad" (i.e. sad you think like that poster) or "confused" (i.e. yours is a confusing post). How about the mods add a "Dislike" function we can use?

"dislike" does not cause the same type of pleasure chemicals to be released in the brain as "likes" or other positive reactions. people become addicted to likes. Facebook knew this from the beginning and only had positive reactions for a very long time.

The "confused & Sad" are a useful tool for me because if I used words for a response I may get into a lot of trouble....:stoner:

You seem to use the smiley face more often as you know that confused and sad emoticons will get you into trouble.

Sadly it would get abused and much like the negative ones we have now people will use them as a troll tool, a way to "hit n run" !

Some people now seem to be aware that the mods are on to this and now use smiley faces as a troll tool.

And I recall in the early days you could even buy like packages for FB. Don't know if this is still the case

Using the Connect app you only have the like option.
Likewise if people put a confused or sad emoji on my posts I only see it as a like which is great until I click on webview and see how people really reacted ☹️

Actually just did a little test:

Here’s the OP on Connect App

Click on webview

A different story altogether.

I’m sticking to Connect App it’s definitely less painful .

Facebook executives have openly admitted that they introduced the "like" function as a form of clickbait. Many Facebook users have become addicted to them and tailor their posts to genererate the maximum number of "likes". It is also often the root cause of some of the trolling that takes place on Facebook. So much so that there have been calls for that facility to be removed. Of course, they wouldn't do that as "likes" =clicks=views=money. There are several companies selling packages of "likes" to Facebook users.

I wonder how many TVF users are addicted to "likes"? 555. What the "smiley face" trolls don't seem to realise is that "smiley faces" add to the users reputation score, same value as likes.

A much better method is to reply to that post explaining why you dislike it.

It is my understanding that  if someone put a "Confused" emoticon under a post, it means he is too demented or bewildered or unbalanced or senile (synonyms of confused) to be able to understand the post.

If it is stupid  why not simply say "hey this is stupid" and  then go on to show why in your opinion it is stupid.

If you call a poster or a post stupid here on TVF you just might get sanctioned.

Do you really want to argue with someone who says the Earth is flat?*

How much do the paid trolls get paid, and are they hiring?

In the U.S. "sad" is used to convey sympathy to some degree, not the way the Brits use it.  I think the way the younger generations use the word "loser" is more like it.

How about an "it sucks!" rating with an emoji that depicts, oh, never mind...

*Actually the Earth is flat and when you get to the edge you fall off onto another pancake-shaped planet called Thailand.  The airlines keep this a secret.

Well I avoid those threads these days. Life's too short.

That is exactly what the offenders want you to do.

Of course not. Personally, I wouldn't reply but neither would I attach an emoticon, what purpose does it serve? I would just ignore it and move on.

Offenders? What offenders? What on earth do you mean?

Seems quite a few posters have the emotional maturity of a 6 year old and can't handle criticism.  Mod MOD!!!...that boy doesn't like me bwah howl sniffle, can you ban him please huh huh? I truly wonder sometimes how they get on in the real world.

Who cares what reactions people give to a post? I certainly don't. Or does this mean no-one is allowed to disagree with what the other person is saying?

I use all four emoticons as I see fit. If I think the post is sad it gets a sad. If the post makes no sense it gets a confused. Isn't that what the emoticon are for?

I note that the main offender hasn't weighed in yet ????

Not the main offender (I think he's getting the message) but one of his acolytes has.

Personally I think that it creates unnessecary animosity towards fellow posters. Nothing wrong with a heated debate on a subject that you are passionate about but snide trolling creates long term resentment. Not good for the Forum.

You and I disagree strongly on one subject but probably agree on others. Just because our views are diametrically opposed on that topic, doesn't make us enemies.

Let's hope that the Brexit debacle is soon resolved, one way or the other, and we can all remain friends.

I imagine any reaction will only serve to add to the posters 'reputation score" ?

I like the idea of a "w-t-f" button.

Honestly wouldn't bother me if you were!

I'm struggling to understand how a simple emoticon can cause such angst amongst a group of, I assume, adult people.

Do people really get that emotional about it?
