Popular Post swissie
This is not a rant against Thai Authorities, trying to get rid of western "undesirables". What is disturbing is the fact that Thai Authorities seem to make little effort to differentiate between western "undesirables" and long term expats that have done nothing else but to conrtibute to Thailand (financially and otherwise) for decades. An increasing number of long-term Farangs feel "under seige" and increasingly under "surveillance". I find that this would be a good time where all the Farangs of different nationalyties realise that they all sit in the same boat. Forming a tight knit community, instead of waging war against each other on internet forums. There is hardly any country where there is not a tightly knit Chinese community. Probably the reason why those "Chinese communities" are left alone by "the Governement". = Too influentual, too well organized. A unified "Farang Community" in Thailand could achieve the same. How? - Although recommendable, Petitions by Farangs (adressing the Thai-Governement) to remove the TM 30 nonsense will have no effect. Only remedy: A combined effort by ALL western Embassies, indicating to Thai Authorites that Farangs having lived in Thailand for 20 years are not "Bad Boys" that have to be harrassed unduly. Further indicating to Thai Authorities that a person originating from Nigeria selling something on a street corner in BKK is not the same "immigrant" as the one that has supported his Thai-Family somewhere in the Isaan for the last 20 years. - Problem: Employees of Western Embassies are merely administrators. Without direct instructions from their "foreighn-office" they are powerless when it comes to protect the interests and well being of Farang Expats. To be sure: As long as Farang-Expats do not realize that they are all sitting in the same boat, things are likely to detoriate for "Long Term" Farangs overall in Thailand. Something that will not happen to the many Chinese Expat Communities all over the world. Time to learn from them? Getting off the the high (Farang) horse and fight as a foot soldier? Insisting that "we are somebody" and we are contributig more to Thailand than we will ever be able to extract from Thailand. (Emotionally as well as financially). Realising that most LT-Farangs live here on a 1 year leash plus 90 day reporting. Fine, one can live with that. But something like a TM30 nonsense belongs in the garbage bin of history. (Reminding me of the former Soviet-Union. I am not aware of any civilised country, needing to know where every Expat/Tourist is located at any given time!) Hardly can I isolate a Tourist-Farang, sipping his Beer-Chang or an Expat enjoying an Isaan sunset as a threat to national security. The ones that could possibly be considered a threat to national security live in the south of Thailand and are Thai-Nationals and not Farangs. I remain convinced: A forceful diplomatic intervention by "western-powers" (as a concerted effort) would do away with the TM30 nonsense in no time at all. Discuss! Or better yet: Bombard your embassy with e-mails, indicating that you don't like the TM30 Hokus Pokus. OR: - Have a British tabloid newspaper produce a first page Headline: "British Tourist and Expats under constant surveillance by the Thai-Govenment 24/7". Conclusion: If resident Farangs in Thailand can not "organise" in a similar way the "Chinese Communities" have (all over the world), the future of Long-Term Farangs in Thailand doesen't look overly bright. ------------ Long thread. Sorry. But if I started a thread involving my Ex-Wife and my Ex-Family in Thailand the thread would be massively longer. So don't complain. Cheers. 18 3 2 8

Popular Post luckyluke
I got a letter from my embassy (Belgium) that the Consul will contact the Thai authorities in charge of Immigration, and "complain" about the TM30. Now I don't expect that Thailand will be highly impressed by this. I even suppose some/most will have to check what/where Belgium is. 6 2

Popular Post RJRS1301
United Farang Community, would be like trying to herd cats as one language group fight for supremacy over the others, much let alone come to a consensus on issues of concern, and presenting matters to government which you have no say in and has no responsibility towards you. Popular Post sunnyboy2018
If the chinese organise it is very behind the scenes...at least in the UK. There are hundreds of active muslim politicians and activists but no Chinese at all. In Thailand the light skinned Chinese Thais run all the major organs of government and most big businesses. The Thais do the sweat work, especially the the dark skinned Thais.

Popular Post OneMoreFarang
Is there any statistic what else the guys who talk and write about TM30 do in their life? Do they have a life? What would you do if TM30 would not exist anymore? Complain about something else? Or would you just be happy, have a beer and enjoy life? If you think you would be happy without TM30 I suggest don't think about it, have a beer and enjoy life! 7

Because so many farang sex tourist come and marry the sex worker, most are from Issan. So you think high up Thai official will respect this people and change the rule? No, they think is low class, so will not change the rule. (I not say ALL farang marry with Issan sex worker. I also contributed large to my Thai wife and her family, but how would it be evaluated as to how much I contributed compared to a farang husband that spent his days drinking and his nights fornicating with prostitutes? Sadly, IMO the Thai authorities just don't care about farangs any more. They are minting it large from the Chinese and Indians. The only Thais that care about farangs are those living off them. Don't forget who runs Thailand. We should not make the mistake of thinking that we are important just because we live in LOS. Remember, remember, everything ends, one way or another. Thailand was good for many farangs, but perhaps those days have passed. I believe that Burma has nice beaches and friendly locals. Perhaps in the future the prospects are better there.

Sorry I had to Google who Eddy Merckx was (I'm obviously not a Cycling fan). Now if you'd have said Hercule Poirot then we all know he's from Belgium (well he would be if he wasn't a fictional character) which is a part of France isn't it??? [Joke, in keeping with the fact HP is always asked if he's French ????]. Joking aside, well done to the Belgian Embassy for taking this forward on behalf of their citizens, I won't hold my breath waiting for the UK one to do the same.
