Vietnam - land border: 15 days' free entry available?

I have never done this. 

 

Can't fly, and I must leave on the 3rd. 

 

Q: Paying the overstay fine for 1 day at DMK, in advance,  would that be an option? Or will they grant 1 more day?

 

Flights are terribly expensive on the 3rd, but not on the 4th
