Just to let people know that today my wife (owner of the house I stay in) was told she had to file a tm30 when I returned from a trip abroad in May.

Nobody told us at the front counter but the lady checking all the paperwork for the extension at the specific counter told us she couldn't validate the application until we go to counter 10 for the TM30.

There are 35 people in the queue before me... and I have the feeling my wife (so... me) will have to pay a fine for this. I have stayed here for 10 years and it is the first time I get this kind of problem...

So probably no shopping or fancy restaurant today and I will think twice about leaving the province now or inviting friends and family to stay. I won't be the one suffering from that the most...

Just have to stay zen, nothing else to do.

Not good news, shall have to be ready come Ext renewal.

Yes, reading the latest reports of extensions, I was confident I was ok but this rejection didn't come from the front counter but from the extension counter so it is not misinformation...

You don't read this forum or the news very often, I'd guess...

Search for TM30 and gazillion threads will show up about exactly what you wrote...

No... In Jomtien until now they didn't care for extensions of stay for marriage or retirement. I guess this was easy to predict as it is an easy way to get money, but I won't be fooled twice

You will also find a gazillion posts suggesting this was previously not an issue for Jomtiem.

My bad. However when regulations come from head of immigration, it's just a matter of time before every place is affected. I guess best would be for your wife to register her account for mobile app or webpage, so you don't need to give them a visit each time you return. Assuming you're still at immigration waiting for the queue, it might be good to ask for it now to save time later.

She did that a few days ago, waiting for the password.

We will follow the rules from now on, but it will make me think twice before I leave the province.

They seem to focus only on trips outside of Thailand for now (again talking about Jomtien for an extension of stay of a marriage visa, not anywhere with any visa).

If you have an online account then it's not really a problem. When you leave the province (I would even say, as soon you sleep in a hotel somewhere) they should report you. So when you back... do the online regristration for yourself again. Finish. Of course without it would be better but with an account not that much problem. At least no Issue that someone should stay at home only.

I can understand when the online system for some reason is not working  then this could be a real problem, as this could be time consuming.

If it works, yes, I guess it will be ok, but I kind of doubt it...

Otherwise, need to go in person and wait about 2h, plus I live about an hour from Pattaya...

I guess we will see. But I agree, for those that can do the TM30 themselves it's not that bad, but I wouldn't like to be renting right now... Or being a landlord either with multiple properties.

With the number of posts elsewhere saying they've been fined already it was always going to be just a matter of time before Pattaya decided to cash in on another source of expat funds.

It makes me laugh the number of people who continually say they've been here xxx number of years and have never filed a TM30 and it's not an issue at Jomtien so don't intend to until they have to. Looks like the fines have started.

Laugh away, I will still adopt that approach. It isn't a problem until it is a problem. What would be the alternative, to fret and worry and wring my hands? Go to immigration and volunteer to pay, damned fool move that would be. Won't be able to fine me until the end of the year, if they do at all. Perhaps a small fine, then I get online filing, no further problem.

I did my 6 th ret.ext. on 28 aug. no Tm30 with me and also not asked by I.O. , I always have my copy of lease with me only …! So once more a proof that even from desk to desk it can be different.

All went fine and quick ,9 clock Kasikorn bank for letter , out to Jomtien i.o , and 9.30 I was out there , next day passport

OP, was it by chance your first marriage extension ? Reason I ask is when I did my first marriage extension (switched from retire) a year ago they wanted a TM30 but the 2nd extension 2 weeks ago, they didnt ask.

The alternative would be to simply abide by the rules and file a TM30 (by post and you don't even have any contact with an IO). It's free to do, no fine to pay, all documents correct, so absolutely nothing to fret, worry and wring your hands about. You'd be stress free (at least as far as Immigration's concerned ????)

It was my 5th or 6th extension actually.

Just to update, my wife told the person at counter 10 she was waiting for the password for the online TM30 and was surprised at the new requirement, I don't know if we were lucky but we didn't get fined and got our TM30 and completed the extension of stay in time.

Lesson learned, and this one was free for once, except it took us about 3H instead of the usual 30mn...

But like it is often said, the experience varies depending on the type of visa, thje immigration office and apparently even on the counter... so try to follow the rule if you can or the fines will come eventually.

I have just jumped from another thread where i was suggesting TM30 not required at Jomtien. (I deal with CW).

Have the usual egg on face. When did this happen. If there was rumbling before when they flicked the tm30 rubbish at CW.... then now listen for the roar from Jomtien folk. Not that it will change anything.

I travel every week inside los and every second week to Saigon. Since mail receipts take 3 weeks (by current reports) how will that work out for my annual extension?

I don't have any stress now.....

Last time I was in there TM30 submittal office was packed and they were queuing out of the door, being handled by a single young lady. I wonder how efficiently mail ins are handled.

I've lived in Thailand for some fifteen years and although I knew about the TM30 it was never required in the past, even when I applied for my yellow book, pink ID card and annual extensions. But, in more recent years, it has been asked for in some areas and people started getting fines. In the early days it seemed to be an option for IO's to 'flex their muscles' and show who's in charge but it was pretty obvious that TM30's would be the next source of income for them.

After asking Si Racha Immigration about the current rules, personally, I decided that filing a TM30 within 24 hours of return from my next trip abroad would get me in the system without any problems and that's what I did. TM30 is in my passport and on their system without any fines or issues and, as far as I know, nothing flags up on their system to say I hadn't complied.

I might be wrong but I think failure to comply with their draconian system, when we need to visit immigration, past problems such as the current TM30 issue and not supplying (for them) important documentation etc, has been flagged up on their system for future reference. If a future IO is in a bad mood he will make sure every 'i' is dotted and and 't' is crossed plus take 'forever' for some while giving other people an easy time. I want to be given an easy time so I try to make sure everything is correct first time.

Up to you but when you return from your next trip why not file a TM30 report then register for on line reporting. It'll only take seconds to complete on your phone each time. Immigration aren't going to excuse you from the TM30 system because of your travel agenda but they just might refuse your next extension.

Always found ladies on desk 8 to be firm but fair. Pushing it somewhat to exit the country without doing a TM30- on return. Didn't you have a new TM6 in your passport.

I agree that they haven't required them in the past but "until now" isn't true either. There have been more than a few reports that Jomtien has been asking for them for awhile. So you do have to read reports here often  to keep upas things change often. I've done ore than 10 annual extensions without a TM.30 at Jomtien, but got one months ago after reading reports posted on Thai Visa.
