The "High Speed Railway" to Chiang Mai has gone rather quiet...

Mind you, they have been planning a metre gauge branch line off the Northern Line (Bangkok to Chiang Mai) to serve Chiang Rai since the 1930s!

Seriously will we ever hear these train whistles blow? Are these trains really required?

Without them the project, part of China’s planned network of high speed rail links across south east Asia that will eventually connect Kunming in south western China with Singapore, will not exist, so, yes, they are really needed.

Sooner or later, Mandarin will replace English as the second language in Thailand.

This high speed rail will bring in loads of tourists from China and also majority Chinese in Singapore and large Chinese population from Malaysia.

Don't be a pessimist. Ticket prices have been set and tickets printed. Everything is set to go.

Small details like finalising contracts, arranging finance, recruiting a skilled workforce and building a railway line and commissioning the trains can be done any time according to the wish and command of the PM.

The skytrain slow speed 12 km line from Mo Chit to the Air Force Academy just past Saphan Mai has been under construction now for at least 4 years; and it's still not open.

At that rate of construction this 252 leg from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasimawill not be opening any time before 2060. Get your tickets early to avoid the rush.

When the maiden voyage from Bangkok to Nong Khai will take place is anybody's guess.

The SRT will be involved so there is every chance it might end up like this.

love your essay....many things you say are correct......love it...

According to the Thai finance ministry, 80 per cent of these loans are denominated in Thai baht, with China only providing technical training for personnel who will operate the high-speed rail system.

Construction for this phase is roughly half finished; it began in late 2017, after Thailand resisted heavy pressure from China for more financial, commercial and operational control of the project.

If this is true, it is really good news. Anything that can be done to resist the CPC's desire for world domination, is a good thing. The rails are a great idea, but without Chinese debt.

Oh buugger! That means the 15 months that was originally left (our glorious leader stated back in 2017, see below), has now been extended to 39 months left to build 250kms of track and and get it up and running.

That must mean that in another two years he will extend the completion date again by a further two years - ad infinitum.

Does he think most of the population don't have memories going back more than a week?

Or perhaps he knows no one listens to what he says, or even believe him.

Just how can you call me cynical?

Well, for all the Thai bashers.

Check out the latest delays, over budget and other problems on the UK HS train.

????????

Check out JR trains in Japan which is somewhat nearer. They made a public apology when a train was not on time- it left 20 seconds early!
