A South Korean woman took the precaution of photographing her Thai holiday money before putting it in a wallet in checked luggage on her flight.

When Lee Soyeong arrived from Incheon at 10.10 am on Friday she discovered that her 20,000 baht was missing.

She went to the tourist police who contacted the airport authorities who interviewed all the baggage handlers involved on her flight.

One was Phairin, 30. Four 1000 baht notes were found in his personal locker.

One was the same serial number as the one on the top of the pile in the photo on the tourist's phone.

Phairin was charged with theft at an airport.

Sanook did not report what had happened to the other 16,000 baht.

strange that she was so careful that she even took photos of the money she put into the luggage. Perhaps she did all this on purpose.

There is Thai Facebook group dedicated to people taking pictures of pile of money. Seems like an Asian and American gangsta rap things.

Chinese tourists who go to europe also make pics of the cash (7000 us$) it costs them to go to Paris and shop like crazy. That goes on their facebook.

It's a way to show off how wealthy you are i think...

A South Korean woman.

Some people aren’t seasoned travellers. My mom never felt comfortable carrying her holiday cash on her person when flying until I explained it to her

Could this be why they want to X-Ray all incoming baggage? so they can see what is worth stealing inside?

Cannot be to find terrorist stuff, they would not come in via baggage.

Isn't that amount an immigration requirement for tourists, haphazardly applied at the wim of the officer at the time.

That would be difficult in this case. The 20k in a checked luggage, how could she show it to the IO?

True,  although in this case she had photos of the money she had in her checked luggage.  So unless her phone was also in the checked luggage I reckon the immigration officer would have to be really mean to deny entry.
