Tell THAT to the poor Thais waiting 8 hours to see a Doctor for 30 baht.

If so great WHY does Prawit fly to Switzerland every month?

I would chose Thai over Swiss hospitals anytime. There's more compassion for animals than for humans in Switzerland.

I was hospitalized in Amsterdam and if it were in the USA, I would have sued the hospital for negligence. They demanded money on day one without a detailed itemized cost of each procedure and medicine. I had to fight with my US insurance for reimbursement. It took seven months for reimbursement and only reimbursed 50%. I was hospitalized in Bangkok Hospital and my insurance paid within 7-days for nice itemized bills for every baht charged). For each procedure they explained to me why it is needed and what happens if I don't do it or delay the procedure and no upfront demand for money.

Hog Wash!!!

I was taken to he Hospital after being contaminated with something the Surgeon said was an unknown Poison... 1st surgery when finally admitted. I actually expired 3 times, each time they brought me back to continue for 8 Hours. I sent 6 months in intensive care. this was the first o 3 surgeries and I need one more (If they succeed this time. Each surgery has been between 1.5 to 3.5 Million Baht, Eqach time they have demanded to have money in their hands, including first tine before I was even Admitted!

Each time they had their Cold/Hard Cash in there greedy Little Hands as they Demanded. I am lucky enough to have these type of Funds available. I suppose looking at me in perspective someone though I didn't have a Pot to <deleted> in! To my Wife who is Thai I really feel that along with her well-to-do Family we were taken advantage of! Feel that the Hospital felt they would Cash in and I would not Survive...

Today as I prepare for 4th Surgery, I am met in the Hallways of the Hospital By Interns, Nurses and Support Staff  with the same statement: :  "Wow!" "Uncle David! You are still Alive!!" I feel they were expecting Something, Someone... to fail

Here is my major issue! Even The Master Surgeon voiced same issue... They wanted over 2.5 million Baht be paid before I would even be admitted for my 1st "Emergency Admittance/Surgery,,,, ! I have come to the conclusion, I was going to Die in Admittance, on a Cart, with Thailand refusing to step up and Take Control to help me!!

Now further down this list... Not one of my Expenses have been reimbursed to us by Insurance... No One has ever looked at Bills that were a flagged double charge or possible Overcharge.

This previous Statement that I have responded to is Total <deleted>! Monitor please do not edit my Words, These Comments are Mine and My Surgeons Words, I was Treated at a Major Chiang Mai Hospital also... Not some Back Woods establishment!!

Please be carefull...

Basically a crappy online magazine which provides no basis for its findings. You can't even read the full table as the ads take up too much space! Their list from 2017 was probably written by someone else and looks totally different!

I wonder if the writer has ever visited a Thai public hospital?

Obviously not talking about the public health system.

I have the same experience with private hospitals in Thailand. First investigate how mush fund you got in savings and real estate, then they make a "diagnose" who fit your wealth. Nedless to explain that you will spend everything to get your health back.

I love how the US is not even in the top 20. In science and math last time I looked they were around 35th position. In contentment and fulfillment? Possibly 130th?

Every day I wake up, I am thrilled to be in Thailand. Fun to be in a region of world in it's Ascendancy, rather than in it's decline.

I agree on Bumrungrad, my impression.  So I went to Samitivej.  Been going for years.  loved and trusted them.  They are a joint venture with the Japs, which I thought was a good thing.  Then I went to see the dentist there and brought along a friend who was visiting from the States.  He has a bald head and had a brownish lesion there that wasn't there the last time I saw him.  I have seen a lot of pictures of melanoma on the net and this look very suspicious.  So I took him to see my dermatologist at Samitivej.  I told the dermatologist that I thought it looked like melanoma (too presumtuous of me?).  The doc examine the spot, announced that it was an age spot and not to worry about it.  It seemed the least he could have done was suggest a biopsy, but he was cocksure.  At least we know Samitivej is not money grubbing like Bumrungrad.

I told my friend to get a second opinion the minute he got back to the States.  He did; it was melanoma.  They took him right in and got rid of it.  Had he not gone for the second opinion, he'd be dead by now.

By the way, that article certainly insults the Spics and the Franks.  Christ!

Well, I had a great experience recently when my appendix erupted. Mind you, there were a few humorous, and not so humorous moments, whilst I waited to be operated on. As an author, I might include those anecdotes in a future book. But, all jokes aside, i was well cared for.

I have posted this in an earlier forum on medical treatment....................

I do not want to sound alarmist but be very careful. Ten years ago I went to Bumrungrad for a simple headache that had been around for a few days. I was sent to a neurologist who diagnosed early onset Alzheimer's and sent me for an MRI at a cost of 30,000 baht. In addition he prescribed several drugs - Stilnox, Tranxeme which is used to treat anxiety, acute alcohol withdrawal, and seizures and a number of other drugs that I cannot remember which were extremely expensive. Obviously it was not Alzheimer's because I am able to write this story.

I also had laser surgery on my eyes at Bumrungrad for acute angle glaucoma about 6 years ago. Upon returning home to Australia I was told by an eye specialist that the surgeon had done the operation the easy way, into the lower hemisphere of my eyes instead of the upper and therefore I now suffer with glare very badly. I then had to attend the hospital for checks - at first weekly, then monthly for a long time and finally every 3 months. That too was very expensive 3000 baht per visit. My Australian doctor told me that was a blatant rip-off because once laser surgery is performed no more than one check-up is necessary. A second eye specialist has since told me that I have never had glaucoma at all.

In addition, I once had very bad shoulder pain and went to BNH Hospital and was put onto a neck stretching machine every day for a month at several thousand baht each day. It was diagnosed as a pinched nerve in my neck. They tried to talk me into an operation on my neck costing  300,000 baht. Thank God I declined. I subsequently found out, upon another trip home that it was indeed an injured rotator cuff in my shoulder.

One time I was staying at Khao Luk and wanted to extend for 2 days. Air Asia would not allow me to change my ticket without a medical certificate. So, fit as a fiddle I went to the local hospital and told the doc I had a bad virus in my throat and a head cold. She examined me and told me I had acute pharyngitis. There was nothing wrong with me.

Also at BNH I had been treated for reflux for many months and in spite of presenting myself at the hospital at 1 or 2 AM several times with extreme pain in my abdomen nothing was ever done apart from giving me reflux pills and once, a pill to push up my rear for constipation which I did not have. In 2010 I returned home and went to my doctor for some reflux pills and he refused them and sent me for a CAT scan. It was cancer in my pancreas and I was immediately operated on and I am one of the 3% who survive that disease.

I can relate other less dramatic stories that have happened to me and also friends of mine in Thailand. It seems to me that medicine in Thailand is not a health service but an industry devoted to making money.

I do not doubt that Thailand has some good doctors but Bumrungrad in particular seems to be only interested in making money. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

Well, I truly question your decisions.

Why do you keep going back to BNH if you think it is a scam and you hate it so much?

Reading that chart it looks like the sole reason Thailand rates highly is cost.   It rates well down on actually medical skills and services.  The authoring magazine evidently gave a very heavy weighing to cost.

Sure you will lose a leg because of your ingrown toenail, but think of the savings!

My bad experiences at Bumrungrad lead to my going to BNH. The treatment for reflux, which was actually pancreatic cancer and the neck pain occurred roughly at the same time. I have never been back to BNH but emailed them of my experience and they responded that their diagnoses were correct which was B/S.

It sickens me to read so many members here moaning about bad government hospitals here.

I can state in my opinion Thai government hospitals maybe not the best in the world, but staff give a damn good service, many dedicated doctors and nurses, working in intolerable over crowed situations.

I am living proof of the first class service provided in a particular government hospital (Khonkaen).

Serious accident my body broken in two, shattered vertabrae, severed spinal cord, broken ribs, punctured lung, broken hip, pelvis and femur, put back together by the skill of surgeons.

Always hearing about doctors cannot speak English, well in the past 6 years i have spoken to many doctors in 2 different government hospitals, and only 1 had a poor command of English.

Wow, seriously?

Government hospitals here "first class service"??

I would argue your hospital experiences are either very limited or have been basically lived life of the level of Thai government hospitals.

They are not First Class Service. Not even close.

But if that is what only fits ones budget, then go for it and good luck.
