How to clear search history in Chrome

Not the regular web search which are quite easy to clear, I'm talking about content search on certain sites:-

These previous searches just won't go away. I've been through Chrome's settings (and there are hundreds of them) but nothing will get rid of these bu**ers.

Strangely all the searches are old, there are no new ones showing up, so something must have changed a while back but I don't know what.

Does not happen Edge or IE.

ctrl-h then clear browsing data then clear data > make sure auto complete is checked in the clear list.

may have to clean search engine cache and temporary files (temp) folder...what version of windows

Tried all that.

Ctrl-h clears browsing data but not my problem and I regularly clean out temp files anyway.

Using Win10 Enterprise.

As I said does not happen in Edge or IE so presumably a Chrome problem.

Since you are talking content search on other sites it sounds like those other sites are setting cookies.  If so it probably how you have the cookies setting in Chrome, IE, and Edge.

Compare the cookie settings in Chrome, IE, and Edge to include the third party cookie settings.

You could also clear your cookies but they would just come back once visiting certain sites again depending on the cookie settings in your browser.

ctrl-h clears the browsing data that has been selected to clear. If its not selected it wont clear.

Your original post appears to show auto-complete history is not clearing. Chrome does not clear this as a default ctrl-h action.

If all check boxes in advanced are checked all history will be erased. If it does not erase something is wrong at your system.

The OP shows what appears to be auto-complete history at page input forms.

Chrome stores its auto-complete history with reference individual site data. You can wipe all cookies and the form auto-complete history will be preseverved. On the client side there is no relation between cookie and auto-complete data.

Go to Settings in Chrome, Advanced, Clear Browsing History, and then it says go to myactivity.google.com and you can clear from all time.

Then something else is holding form history like a plugin. Or you are syncing from a logged in Google account.

Success, I think.

Not sure what I did but something to do with cookies in myactivity.

Cleared everything I could see and that seems to have done the trick.

Unfortunately I was then prevented from sighing in because cookies was disabled Ahhhh!

Reset cookies and now able to sign in so hopefully that's the problem solved for now.

I changed so many settings trying to fix this I'm sure Murphy will throw up some more problems in the future.

Thanks for all you help and suggestions

If the problem comes back for any particular site, go into Chrome via Settings, Advanced, Site Settings, Cookies, See All Cookies & Site Data and then look for a cookie(s) with the name or similar name of the site that is retaining you data....not uncommon to see the site has placed several cookies with similar names on your computer.   Click on the cookie(s)  and then delete it.

Close the browser and then go back to the site to see what shows.  Now, that deleted cookie(s) will surely reappear on you computer once you return to that site to start saving info again unless you block them.  If it's a Third Party Cookie you can globally block Third Party Cookie with a Chrome setting but all Third Parties Cookie are not bad.  Or you can specifically just block certain cookies which is the approach I take.
