Unfortunately I know that story well from my own experience, the builder guy I use will not ever talk price, the wife always does it and its usually high, she even explained on one occasion that the price is high specifically because it was NOT a Thai price !!!

Pet issue of mine, hate this dual pricing attitude. It certainly doesnt help to foster good relations.

Builders:

Supervisor: B750/day

Welder: B500/day

Labourer/roofer/brickie, etc: B400/day

Electrics: B120/power point

Render: B80/m2

Etc, etc, etc......

Materials: You buy them - always get wifey to price from 3 suppliers and you STAY IN THE CAR.

Plant & equipment: If you have them (welding sets, cement mixers, drills, ad naseum - they'll use 'em otherwise they provide FOC.

Day rates are easy to enforce: YOU have to be on site every day and make sure they are all working and not swinging the lead. Plus the builder won't want to loose face by you pointing out they are working too slowly.

I don't understand people who have problems with pricing from builders.....if you are asking for lump sum prices more fool you.

On topic: Thai people - people who respect me I respect in turn, love 'em all. Otherwise, same as all over the world, I don't want to know them. TBH I find Thai people very easy to get on with. It's true that a smile goes a long way here. I don't care what anyone thinks of me, if I feel I'm getting disrepsected/ripped-off, I can always go elsewhere.

Sounds like the OP has a bit of a chip on their shoulder? Maybe, Khun Yinn, you could place another topic on how, from your experience, farangs have been positive towards you - for balance.

I like the farang I meet before. I just shocked why SOME hate so much. That only small part of what he/they say.

Is everyday on TVF, nearly every thred.

and I want to say, Thais don’t hate farangs. Why they say that?

"everyday on TVF, nearly every thred"

I think foreigners are generally more openly critical of many things, whereas Thais tend to stay quiet and pretend it doesn't bother them (even though it does). We are raised to be more open about our feelings, discuss things etc.

Feel like if I say my feeling on TVF, a lot of guy angry me.

7 hours ago, JonnyF said:

These are just factual things that happened. Stating them openly does not mean I do not like Thai people, some are awesome and some are nasty.

Yinn is awesome. Sorry about your dog. Read OP again, this guy hate thai, he say it. Sure. Everyday!

I tend not to discuss it with Thai people though, as they take it very personally if you suggest that Thai people are not all fantastic, Thailand No. 1 etc. I do see that changing though, I have Thai friends where I work in Bangkok who now holiday in Japan, Korea, Singapore etc. and are more open to criticizing elements of Thailand or Thai people which do not compare favourably to their Asian counterparts (road manners, governance, public transport, air quality etc.)

If you read a thai language news forum you see thai criticism thai a lot. But not hate everyone.

Japan is popular now. I will go soon.

Perhaps the op needs to understand what confirmation bias means.

It's rather cynical and unfair of the OP to try to paint foreigners in general with that very dark post.

I have lot more. I had to cut most because it to long.

In my view her intentions sound similarly dark as that rant. To stir up some major sheit.

I can not reply? Just listen right?

That said there were grains of truth in the rant.

Thanks. But. No. I not bury the head in the floor. I not frail ego.

but some guys ignore button me. 5555555555

I suggest you take the above advice. This forum is not representative of the majority of "farangs" in Thailand , There are many different farangs in thailand from different walks of life. here for different reasons.

In the west we have a saying "Birds of a feather roost together" "misery loves company" both of these dynamics play a part in this forum.

I dont know many farangs in Thailand I mostly keep to my Thai family when I am there, but the farangs  I know are well adjusted family people who love their Thai wife, and children and are also offended by the attitude of the malcontends. I am chatting with one right now on FB (an Australian) through politically opposite to me, a good and very nice man.

Are there problems in Thailand?? Sure there are, but what other country does not have problems? Just different problems.

And no, I am not superior , or holier than thou. I got married to a lovely Thai lady over ten years ago, we both lived in the US from day one, and spend a few months at our Thai home every year, being doing that for over fifteen years now, never more than three months for me. This has allowed me to slowly acclimate. and put things in proper perspective.  Others jump head in , have unrealistic expectations , are not properly prepared for the culture shock and reality and IMO react negatively.

Life is too short. Don't let them drag you down, Ignore them!!

thank you for taking the time to write this topic.

have you been outside of Thailand?

Yes. Malaysia, Vietnam, Laos, Nepal.

I mean to a western country?

I try go Australia for holiday after uni. But Aussie embassy took my money and refuse visa because I not have a job. If I have a job, how can I go? Stupid. I only want to go for 3 weeks, they make me pay for 3 month. Then not give.

Have you experienced what we call "culture shock"?

It would give you some perspective on this issue.

can i ask you how did it make you feel to state your anger and disappointment with farang (white people)? better?

When? I post what the other guy say.

i not hate farang. Thai people not hate farang. Only farang say thai people hate farang.

5 hours ago, NCC1701A said:

i think you will find many farangs (white people) come here to vent their anger and tell their mostly sad stories here on TV.

Sometimes it is silly like talking about shopping at Home Pro and sometimes it is very serious like having horrible problems with their Thai girlfriend or wife.

99% of the time i have no problems with Thais, but I will tell you when i have anger towards the Thai people. On the highways. There almost daily someone tries to kill me on my motorcycle just so they can be in front of me. I am not exaggerating. The aggression Thais show each other constantly by following too closely and the constant and totally unnecessary need to get in front of the person that is in front of them. Constantly speeding and passing in a unsafe way. This behavior is a reflection of your country and how little respect Thais have for each other, themselves, and their families. It makes me sad but at the same time I accept the responsibility of being here and it was a choice I made when I decided to retire here.

Better to buy a car.

Want to hear something funny? My number two gripe about Thailand is the lack of a proper third wire electric ground. I have a electronics background and you can't believe how upsetting it is to me how dangerous the electric is here. Farangs like things done properly. And it makes me sad when I see stories about Thai children being electrocuted because of substandard wiring. See? I feel better now "talking" about it.

Yes uncle. But the quote I post is not like that.

And in case you are wondering how Farangs (white people) all feel about each other, just ask someone from the UK how they REALLY feel about Germans or the French, or Americans about Russians who have nuclear weapons pointed at the USA, (and the other way around) or people from the UK who call me a "bloody Yank" (I love that one):clap2:or class warfare like so called low class people versus people with some money and education. And lets not even get started with the Communist Chinese. It is a bottomless pit.

The people who hate the thai here, also hate Muslim, Chinese, Indian and Russian a lot I think.

Personally I finds very hard to connect with thais on friendly open level. They get offended by bad jokes as well little to talk about as most lacks general knowledge or even hobbies

Many, many times over the years, despite knowing my status as my wife's husband and my name, many Thais have chosen to say " ... is the 'farang' ...", " ... does the farang ... " rather than " ... does your husband ... ". I see that as EXTREMELY rude ... You might say that it's not intended to be offensive but simply using the word in place of my name or status is very offensive in my view.

3 hours ago, Yinn said:

Ok Mr Martin.

Sorry you think that sir, but they not try to be extremely rude.

What about the quote I post. You think that extremely rude? I think he try. Different.

As you often do, you missed the context of the passage you quoted. I've highlighted it for you above. These were people that knew me and my relationship with their friend. I must say that, while the vast majority of my wife's friends are great and we get on very well, there are still the odd few who seem unable to shake off their ignorance.

Whether or not someone tries to be rude, if it's perceived as rude then that's what it is. Just as a very small number of Thais think it's rude if I neglect to wai, even though I don't mean it rudely, and they make it quite clear they don't approve.

If people know your name yet insist on calling you something else, would you not be offended? If instead of saying "Does Yinn want ... " they said "Does ... Oh, I'm too lazy to remember her name, want ... " would you be OK with that, if it was repeated on numerous occasions? If you say you would not be offended, I call BS.

As someone who writes in support of you says above "It gets tiring to hear".

As far as the quote you posted is concerned, that was offensiveness from an entirely anonymous source, someone that you don't know, doesn't know you. An entirely different situation and far more easily ignored.

This is the first time we have seen a Thai person write on Thaivisa forum.

Unfortunately, due to the language barrier, most Thai people don't know what most Farang people really think.

Welcome to the real world.

People say have thai before.

But they kill the witch already.

I tend to like Thais but they are not beyond criticism. I do not like the current Goverment. Regarding other foreigners and their attitude towards Thais: this forum is not balanced or an accurate representation of people's views. Its full of very small minded  parochial people, often hate filled and racist.

If I had any message for the Thai people it'd be "Please fix your country, don't you see you are falling behind all your neighbors, and the rest of the world? For good reasons".

Ok, I will fix it tomorrow. You want to help me?

(we in front of the neighbor already)

Even Prayut better than Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. So I not see that.

It is the Thai's country, if they don't fix it nobody will. We all had ancestors who died for freedom and democracy, during the last 804 years.

You think nobody die already?
