Safest way to ship a small item to the US

Featured Replies

What is a safe and reasonably-priced way of sending a small item to the US?

It is a 20-year-old electronic item of little value, but once upon a time it cost quite a lot, and I really don't want it to go missing as my friend in the US would enjoy being able to use it. Even packed, it will weigh less than 500g.

Fed Ex? An alternative? All advice appreciated.

UPS, FedEx and Thailand Post are my suggestions.  I've used all three whilst shipping to the USA and many other countries and have never had any issues.

If you are concerned about its safety, just be sure that whatever method you choose has a tracking number... I have used all noted above w/no problems also... Fed Ex is really fast too! Probably 1200 baht but plenty of peace of mind.

Suggestion: use a large package.

Thai Post as you didn't request express/fast delivery.

An "Int’l Small Packet-Air" of 490 grams ("less than 500") cost 306 Baht.

Fee for registering with tracking number is 85 Baht.

I have sent airmail letters with registering for about 110 Baht to Germany.

Can be tracked to the recipient.

Depending on target country can take a while (7 to 10 days e.g.) mostly due to long delays at target country customs (at least true for Germany).
