Neck collar

Featured Replies

I have a very bad neck, constantly stiff and very uncomfortable, if I stop moving my head about it is bearable but any movement and headaches, ear buzzing starts, had x-ray a couple of years ago which showed hole in my spine, doctor said nothing can be done other than cope with it, thinking a neck collar will stop movement and make life more bearable.

I'm in Phuket.

No results other than I saw the X-ray which showed a dark circle on my spine, I assume it was worn away, I'm not a doc but he said nothing can be done, he did say in the future you will probably suffer from Tinnitus plus more stiffness.

I have no idea what a "hole in the spine" means but it does not sound like a valid medical diagnosis.

Do you have any test results you can post here? Was an MRI done?

When moving my head from side to side a grating can be felt, its extremely uncomfortable 24/7 I'm guessing a deterioration of my spine.

I'm not a doctor but I do know a neck collar will help me a lot.

Actually a neck collar might make matters worse in the long run by weakening the musculature. Movement may be painful but immobility will increase stiffness.

If I were you I would certainly not take one doctor (and likely not a spinal specialist at that) statement that "nothing can be done" as definitive.

I suggest you invest in a trip to Bangkok to consult this doctor who is an excellent spinal specialist:

https://www.bch.in.th/find-doctor/doctor-profile/?smid=4555

(same doctor, different hospitals. BCH costs less but his hours there are only once a week.)

If mri is recommended you can save on the cost by doing it outside of hospital here:

Thanks, I think I will go back to Bangkok Phuket hospital for another X-Ray and consultation with the specialist there, problems with my neck are not covered by my insurance and due to the exchange rate etc I am financially strapped, I'm just looking to make living day to day more bearable.
