It happened with a Model S near San Francisco, California

City of Fremont, in the United States: while pursuing the car of a suspect, a patrol realizes that the battery of the Tesla Model S (in version 85) on which it is traveling is almost at 0%, with a residual autonomy of 10 km. And after 10 minutes, according to reports from the CNN, the agents are forced to stop letting the wanted man flee, who soon after - in San Jose - decides to leave the car, later found by the California State Highway Patrol police.

So, the charge was dropped?

It’s a stupid and incorrect (fake) news story taken out of context to make electric cars seem useless. Same old BS.

In response to the story the police explained what really happened, is in the link below.

Basically the previous officer forgot to plug it in for a charge at the end of his shift. Next shift took over with an almost empty battery. However At no time did the battery of the Tesla become a factor in their ability to pursue the suspect or perform their duties. This situation, while embarrassing, was no different from cases where a patrol car runs low (or even dry) of fuel. (Which they do)

And that the whole pursuit was being called off for safety reasons and it didn’t affect the pursuit.

Also to all the people who think they need better range to be used by the police.:

"Their Model S outfitted for patrol gets about 220-240 miles per charge and during an 11-hour patrol shift, Fremont patrol officers drive approximately 70-90 miles, according to the department."

Why do you say that.?.Make them seem useless.!. They are not useless , just limited range compared to Other Fuels.Iv just been amongst them and would imagine the Tires dont last long the speed they take off from the lights.

I don’t think they are useless at all? Quite the opposite. The range is also perfectly adequate for 95% of people.

If a Police chase vehicle is disabled or about to be they radio ahead for another vehicle to take up the chase. Simples.
