Biometrics Wow! But VANCOVER and a host of other slips gave Canadian away

More details have emerged of the terrible fake passport with which a Canadian man was trying to cross the border at Mukdahan last month.

Naew Na praised immigration's Biometrics system to the skies and featured a picture of commissioner Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang - this time dressed in fetching shades of blue rather than usual brown fatigues.

But the reality was that any half awake immigration officer would have been able to spot the fake without resorting to the use of a two billion baht system, notes Thaivisa.

Robert, 54, was trying to cross on September 22nd when the biometrics flagged up the problem and an Interpol connection.

The Canadian embassy said the passport had been issued to a woman call Josie who had reported it stolen.

Thaivisa had earlier reported that the name of the origin of the bearer had been written as VANCOVER rather than Vancouver.

Now more details have emerged. Numbers on several pages didn't match, barcodes didn't tally and the perforations were all wrong.

In addition the kind of ink used to write CANADA was the wrong type.

Thai immigration under Sompong or "Big Oud's" leadership has been bigging up the biometrics system in recent weeks, notes Thaivisa.

Today it was hailed in helping to catch 45,000 overstayers and 1,000 on blacklists, figures widely ridiculed in social media posts.

The only thing that fatigues me is the constant posting of this guy doing what he's paid to do... I don't know of any other immigration service in the world that advertises their daily occupation as he does!

We are going to be bombarded with endless nonsense about the wondrous things "bio metrics" will do to enhance our lives - until it becomes accepted - just like we all accept that it is ok for for google to track us 24/7!

Thailand is "playing the game" which is why they are accepted by the "international community"!
