Manidipine Hydrochloride 20mg - Allergic response ?

Featured Replies

Following multiple TIA's and a small stroke, I had been on various medications for some years.

My medication was changed to Manidipine following a stroke which was complicated by rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure a couple of years ago.

I understand there is/are an imported and local version/s of this medication, Kerdica and Madiplot.

When I first started Manidipine I could not tolerate taking one tablet once per day and split the dose to am / pm.    After some months I was generally able to tolerate one tab in morning.

Has anyone had possible allergic responses to this medication ?    If so what were / are they ?

Recently I have started getting issues with liver function, excess gas ( irrespective of their diet / I am vegan for 40 years ) or prickly heat like symptoms ?

Difficult to find a list online of general possible allergic responses to this medication.

I think you may be confusing allergy with side effects.

Allergy usually manifests as a rash, sometimes burning eyes, sometimes hives and in severe cases trouble breathing. Usually this happens early in taking the drug and it would be unusual to develop after being on a drug for a long time.

Side effects are unrelated to allergy. They are just effects other than the intended therapeutic effect that occur in some people, usually a minority.

Known side effects of manidipine include:

Dizziness; flushing; headache; hypotension (low blood pressure) ; peripheral oedema (swelling, rapid heart rate, palpitations; GI disturbances; increased frequency of urination lethargy; eye pain; depression; ischaemic chest pain; cerebral or myocardial ischaemia; transient blindness; rashes; fever; abnormal liver function; gum problems, ; muscle aches, tremor; and impotence.

While this list may sound scary the incidence of most of these problems is small and most people do not experience them.

The most commonly experienced side effects are swelling of the ankles and legs, headache and dizziness.

But yes, the problems you report could be from the drug. Though the gas and prickly heat could also be unrelated. Not unusual to start having more gas as one ages and prickly heat rashes are very common in this climate.

If by liver function issues you meant slight elevation in liver enzymes and if you do mot drink much alcohol then this I would think quite is likely the medication.
