What Really happened?

WHAT HAPPENED?
An increasing number of Farangs realise that Thailand isen't just the same anymore.
There was a time, when the British Navy entered any port, the natives accepted them as "white Gods".
Something similar happened when Farang Tourists started to hit the shores of Thailand. Much to the amazement of Thai's, those modern day "white Gods" seemed to have unlimited financial resources.
During this time, the Farang "high rollers" (the bell ringers) contributed much to the original developement of Rural-Thailand (directly or indirectly).

Today, a good part of the former "high rollers" and their sons are trying to stay afloat by holding down 3 jobs in Europe/US. (No more "bell-ringing" in Thailand.) This hasen't escaped the TAT nor the average Bar-Hostess in Pattaya. = Us Farangs have lost the status of "white Gods". We know it and the Thais know it. The Thai's also know that the future "Economic-Powerhouse" is located in Asia (S/E Asia) itself and not in Europe.

So, as pragmatic as Thai's are, they are just adopting to a new situation. Recruiting "Tourists" from every corner of the world, knowing that "foreighner-revenue" is generated by 3-week Tourists and not by a few Farang Isaan Dwellers or staunch Soi Buakao Farang long-term Farang residents.
As it were (unless a Farang is a high-tech wizard), long-term Farangs have become "unnecessary" with regard of the future developement of Thailand.

Well, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED.

PS: 10 years from now, other S/E Countries may also find that permanent resident Farangs have also become "unnecessary". Judging by recent History, they may not display the same " benevolancy" towards Foreighners as Thai's currently do, once they have discovered that the Foreighner has become "unnecessary".

Food for thaught, no more no less.

you (that do notice the trend happening to you) have all become 'foster' people!

 - only around for as long as you are needed...

Same feelings would often hit one's head like a brick in the home too!

Part of the problem has to be that the ones that threw the money around ( you know, the morons that sent a BG thousands of baht a month so they wouldn't stay in the bar ) spoiled it for all the rest of us. My Thai family thought I was going to be the same as the idiot farang that married a cousin. He ruined it for me, as they didn't want me around when I didn't give it large to the family.

It's like the Pacific Islanders that believed in the cargo cult after WW2.

Rich stupid farangs spoiled the paradise for not rich farangs.

If the country was full and all the hotels were full and airports operating at 100% capacity then there might be an argument for raising prices and keeping the budget travelers out but we are very far from that situation.

What's happening here is the opposite of normal, someone is deliberately and systematically dismantling the system that's been in place for many decades.

Foreigners are no drain on resources, the excuse about the pathetically small amount of unpaid hospital bills nationally for introducing new insurance regulations doesn't ring true.

I wonder who introduced this new rule and the real reason why they introduced it.

It doesn't matter if someone is a budget traveler or a 5 star / first class kind of guy, they all result in a net gain for Thailand.

There will be a specific reason behind recent changes, we just don't know it. Not yet anyway. It will become clear one day.

Whatever it is, farangs will be the last to know.

Perhaps it's just that too many farangs actually thought they were white gods.

No. Some farangs who spent a lot of money gave some Thais (especially bar girls and their families) the impression that they have "too much money" because they spent it like there is no tomorrow.

With all the girls I met I made it clear to them from the beginning that I am not one of those guys with too much money. I am not a cheap Charlie and I a happy to buy them a drink or two and I take care of my gf. But I am not buying everybody lots of toys. In my experience the girls understand that and if they want more money then they will look for another guy, or a couple of them, who have more money - or who pretend to have money.

IDK what you talk about but it only became easier to work remotely / abroad for my generation (28y old) and I certainly do not need 3 jobs, I need only 0.5.
Neither do I see anyone in trouble back home in Netherlands, except the classic minority, always some who mess up their life.

What happened? The exchange rate is poor, the service is even worse and the visa situation extreme. That's all.
P.S. Maybe stop believing that leftish news telling you everyone is in trouble and need 3 jobs to survive? It is garbage, some are lazy, some are not.

You talk as if bar girls formulate national policy! Sure there have been plenty of morons who threw too much money into the bar but the fact that sentiment towards foreigners has changed goes much deeper than that. I felt a mild swing in the Thaksin era but the past five years has definitely seen a sharp swing in sentiment and will continue to deteriorate till there is a change in mindset. Don't hold your breathes!

LOL what kind of oldstyle BS is that? xD

If the family thinks in that way; then find another family, dont blame the rich spending money. I think your family is smart enough to consider everybody is different and handles finances differently. If they dont understand that then <deleted> them!

If you SO/GF thinks like that too, then shes replaceable too. Luckily the newer generation in the country is not like this already.

And IMO i dont care about my GFs family. My GF is my GF, her family is nothing to me, unless their nice guys.

There was a foreign news item, in I think it was the Jakarta press, that explained exactly what was happening.

But to link or mention the reason here would be against the law.
