November 3, 20196 yr Abhisit could be back to oversee study on charter changes By The Nation The Democrat Party has welcomed a suggestion that its former leader Abhisit Vejjajiva be appointed to head Parliament’s ad-hoc committee on amending the Constitution. Democrat MP Thepthai Senpong said on Sunday (November 3) the party would decide this week who should head the committee. It is currently awaiting a decision regarding its quota of members on the panel. Thepthai said he was grateful to hear Abhisit proposed to chair the committee, calling him a strong proponent of democracy. Prachachart Party leader Wan Muhamad Noor Matha had floated the idea of putting Abhisit in charge of studying ways to amend the Constitution. Wan and leaders of other opposition parties, along with academics and civil-society activists, have begun pushing for amendments to the junta-sponsored Constitution, believing it undemocratic. The military opposes any change and the government has yet to take a stance. Abhisit vowed while campaigning ahead of the March election to amend the Constitution if the Democrats came to power. He resigned as party leader after the Democrats voted to join the government coalition with Prayut Chan-o-cha as prime minister. November 4, 20196 yr Popular Post 6 hours ago, webfact said: a strong proponent of democracy. Abhisit not only abandoned his House MP position in September (?) 2013 after the scheduling of a new General election and publicly refused to vote in that election, he urged voters to also refuse to vote and had no objection to PDRC protesters blocking voting venues to keep the public from voting. He has been a strong proponent of democracy only when there is a process in place to assure his own power. And that power seems closely attached to pro-military proponents.
November 4, 20196 yr The title almost makes it sound as if anyone has missed him. Let's just say I doubt that's the case.
