'Thatcherism on steroids' - Corbyn says of Johnson's Brexit plans

LONDON (Reuters) - Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party wants to hijack Britain’s exit from the European Union to deregulate the economy and lower standards, opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will say on Tuesday.

The Conservatives will “unleash Thatcherism on steroids”, Corbyn will say in a campaign speech ahead of the Dec. 12 election, referring to former prime minister Margaret Thatcher who oversaw the privatisation of many state-owned industries.

Corbyn, whose party is trailing the Conservatives in opinion polls, will say Johnson’s government would include the National Health Service (NHS) in any post-Brexit trade deal with the United States.

“This threat to our NHS isn’t a mistake. It’s not happening by accident. The threat is there because Boris Johnson’s Conservatives want to hijack Brexit to sell out the NHS and sell out working people by stripping away their rights,” he will say in a speech in Harlow, north of London, according to extracts released by his office.

“They want a race to the bottom in standards and protections. They want to move us towards a more deregulated American model of how to run the economy.”

Johnson has repeatedly said the NHS, which voters cite as the second most important issue after Brexit, would not be on the table in any trade talks.

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump denied Labour’s claims that the NHS would be up for grabs, telling LBC radio: “It’s not for us to have anything to do with your healthcare system.”

Britain is heading for its first winter election since 1923 in a bid to break the deadlock over its exit from the EU, more than three years after the 2016 referendum vote to leave the bloc.

Corbyn will repeat Labour’s pledge to renegotiate Britain’s exit deal with the EU, something it says will take no longer than three months as it has discussed the terms with the bloc. Labour would then hold a second Brexit referendum, giving voters the choice between Labour’s deal and staying in the EU.

“A Labour government will get Brexit sorted within six months by giving you, the British people, the final say,” Corbyn will say.

“So if you want to leave the EU without trashing our economy or selling out our NHS you’ll be able to vote for it. If you want to remain in the EU, you’ll be able to vote for that.”

  • Well if Johnson is "Thatcher on Steroids" then Corbyn is the "Spawn of Stalin"!   Corbyn wants to go back to the spiteful Socialist Workers Party ideas of the 70's - smash capitalism, smash

History will show that neither Johnson or May were serious about leaving on time and that both extensions were illegal.

That's not a bad bit of 'projection', given that the evidence is in on Johnson's lies

Each time Corbyn opens his yap I respect him less and less. This has been my opinion for some years so...

Cut the old goat some slack,it probably cost the Labour party bundles to Saatchi & saatchi for that little gem.

And Corbyn has a Brexit plan? Well let's here it then. What exactly will his 'deal" look like and how will it differ from May's or Boris's?

Corbyn's plan to scrap ALL immigration rules and throw the doors wide open to any one; force all businesses to give shares to all employees; and give workers "unprecedented" but not yet disclosed rights and protection will do what for the economy?

So because Johnson lies, Corbyn tells the truth!

There we have it - a wonderful example of lefty sophistry!

There was nothing illegal about the extensions.

Do you have any proof of your last sentence?

Or deliberately posting false information?

Well if Johnson is "Thatcher on Steroids" then Corbyn is the "Spawn of Stalin"!

Corbyn wants to go back to the spiteful Socialist Workers Party ideas of the 70's - smash capitalism, smash the UK's culture and traditions; smash it's Christian European heritage; indoctrinate the young; punish the middle class; make everyone equal but some more equal of course; redistribute wealth how he thinks it should be - spend people's money how he thinks it should be spent; flood the country with immigrants to facilitate social upheaval and irreversible change; stab British overseas territories in the back, regardless of what their people want; strangle free enterprise with over burdening bureaucracy and taxation; neuter the police even more with increased political interference; control media and forbid dissent.

Should he get elected, expect even more ultra left ideological polices to suddenly emerge. The aim will be to change the country and constitution.

Laws if changed, can't be then enforced retrospectively.

My position is that the Supreme court & remain camp are so bent that there was no way anything brexit-related could have passed. I cannot prove it & doubt if i'll be around when history does but I nonetheless believe that it will.

You repeatedly make this claim but have yet to provide evidence to back it up.

Corbyn hasn't dared to print it yet.

While I expect their is no evidence to back up Bareboxer’s repetitive claim, you’re not exactly helping him out.

I didn't say that Corbyn has a plan, only that Johnson hasn't.

We should be careful of criticizing Corbyn too much.

After all, if anyone semi-coherent was the leader of the Labour party they'd probably win with a massive majority and then we'd end up with the likes of Dianne Abbott and John McDonnell in government.

So thanks Jeremy. May your role as leader continue for many, many years.

if I was a UK citizen, thanks God I am not, I would not know who to trust but surely not BJ
