The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has asked for the cooperation of Thais not to set off lanterns, hot air balloons and fireworks near Thai airports.

The request comes ahead of the Loy Krathong festival that will be celebrated in Thailand next Monday.

Wing Commander Sutheerawat Suwannawat accepted that the lanterns were an important part of the culture of the country but they could pose a threat to aircraft and aviation.

He said that anyone who wants to set off lanterns needs to inform the authorities to get permission seven days in advance.

They know what 'laws' are and why they exist?

I recall one year spending Loy Krathong on Jomtien beach where the fires were supposed to head out over the ocean, but the wind shifted and the little buggers headed over homes and businesses. Not sure if any burned down any buildings, but what a sight to behold!

This guy for real? It is getting totally sickening seeing that everyone with a mouth in the regime is military.

Having landed in CM on the night of a million lanterns passing the window within touching distance I for one hope they close the airport at 6pm again this year I wont be flying but live on the final approach flightpath ????

Loy Krahtong is in less than 5 days

then practically the permission is impossible to obtain
