Exactly. The UK is supposed to be a union within a union and no other union in the world holds referendums across member states as a single electorate.

In a truly democratic union the ballot paper as it stood would only have applied to England, the ballot paper for the devolved nations should have been to the effect that in the event of a vote to leave the EU did they want to remain in the UK, or not.

You should perhaps read a little of the history of that currency and the part the Scotts played in saving it when the English thought it a good idea to print as much of the stuff as they pleased.

It's pretty easy for Scotland to adopt the Euro and if Ireland reunites they are already using the euro anyway.

Catalonia is an autonomous community of Spain so it would appear that Scotland is perceived as an autonomous community of England.

It was a lack of attention to detail that got us into this mess.

Malta gained its independence from the UK and became part of the EU, as did Cyprus and Ireland.

The EU has a history of accepting countries previously ruled by England. Do some homework before spreading the BS.

agree, (you could skip the UK bit), EU has a history of accepting European countries

 

refusing Scotland membership would be close to impossible for EU,

Spain might be against but they would quite simply be pressed, hard, until they accept

 

cannot continue with EU if refusing democratic/peaceful countries smack in Europe

3 council by-elections this week in Scotland. Council elections use Single Transferable Vote so a first and second choice which makes for interesting analysis:

 

1) Rosyth

First preference - SNP lead with 42.8%

After 6 stages, SNP win with 52% (SNP hold)

 

2) Dunfermline

First preference - SNP lead with 33.2%

After 5 stages, SNP win with 39.1% - worth noting that the Lib Dems ended up on 39.0% or only 2 votes behind (SNP gain from the Tories)

 

3) Inverness Central - count underway

After 3 stages, SNP win with 49.6% (SNP hold)

 

SNP share of the first preference votes rose 12.3% on the last election in 2017; Tories up 2.9% to 15.3%, LD up 6% to 10.5% and most shocking of all, Labour down 10% to 6.9%.

Why is this relevant? Sandyf is presenting examples of small countries that have gained independence from the UK and thrived as a result, despite the desperate Project Fear attempts by Westminster to cow the locals into accepting ongoing subservience.
