Mercedes Benz driver gives ambulance the finger after refusing to get out of the way

For years I have wished for a reality TV show in LOS that has a cop in an unmarked car with a camera crew. It never takes longer than 10 or 15 minutes on any highway for some idiot to pull a bonehead move, endangering countless others. This includes driving head on towards you in the wrong lane usually in a marked ‘no passing’ zone, among others. Those fools should be stopped, pulled from their cars and beat on live TV.

Realizing that will never happen, wouldn’t it be satisfying if the unmarked car held a cop or two or three and an officer of the court to mete on punishment and justice on the scene ? And then have the offender’s car confiscated and taken away on a car hauler.

Anyone want to produce such a show with me? Given this country’s predilection to drama (read addiction to lakorn tv shows), I think a live, thrill packed show along these lines would be a hit !

Nothing will be done but thanks for the laff.

Can only hope he finds himself in the exact same situation and dies on way to hospital. Perfect irony and Twilight Zone episode.

The action at it's core points exactly to why this nation is due to get rocked.

Well, if he's a nobody we'll get a follow-up story. If he's a somebody well that guy can die in ambulance no need to inconvenience oneself. Nothing done.

In Thailand what would fix this is 100k fine. Impound vehicle. Never happen.

Why would they censor the license plates? Why does this <deleted> need protection? Why not let the world know what kind of idiot this “person” is?

Years ago, back in Indiana, where a person died in an ambulance, when some Benz driver refused to yield, they quickly passed, and STRICTLY enforced a new law.  Refuse to yield for ANY emergency vehicle and their dash cam will get your license plate number, and within 24 hours you will be in jail, with NO BOND, and an automatic $10,000 fine, loss of license for one year, and 30 days in jail - No matter WHO you are

The difference being ambulance drivers in Thailand abuse the use of their emergency lights so much so that self centred drivers do not take the lights seriously. I do not recall the use of sirens in addition to flashing lights perhaps if the sirens were used bad drivers would be more considerate.

Just do it as in Sweden or the Netherlands fine by percentage of the income and option to go to jail depending. Then the 25% of fine based on income will help this follish driver next time to clear the path.

This pain all people will feel regardless the car they are driving.

Probably doesn't actually work

( family money ) so hit 'Daddy' with the 25% fine instead.

Suppose it comes down to the same old basic Thailand failures.

Pittance fines.

Tea money policing.

Drivers education.

Police training.

Too many vehicles with flashing lights is totally confusing.

A lack of mentality that tells the driver that they are in control of a lethal weapon.

Cars kill, bikes kill. Trucks kill.

I have a friends son in ICU still.

Run over by an 18 wheel truck that didn't even have the balls to stop.

If you do the crime,  pay the fine, or do the time.

Simple hip pocket nerve policing.

Australia is 4 demerit points and a $400 (8,000 baht) fine, failure to give way to an emergency vehicle.

Good luck I have nothing to say; I would have sued this d1ckhead for attempted murder and something like THB 100 million. In case I would win the trial, the money would go to charity.

Even this little <deleted> would have to cough up lots of money to get the trial bent in his favour! Money pain is the only pain such slime knows!

Many countries have despatch centres to control emergency vehicles.

Lights and sirens are a code one approved despatch.

So can basically run the red lights.

The use of flashing lights except for emergency vehicles is Also banned.

Here its used for Jeabs som tam being sold on the road side.

Strobe brake lights another one.

Time to wake up Thailand...

The world is watching you.

It was reported today in Thairath and the Daily News (11/11/19) that Ms Kunwadi Thamrongthonki, a representative from the Ramkhamhaeng based company in BKK which owns the black Mercedes Benz, went to the hospital and apologised to the patient and their family involved in the incident. A basket of fruit was presented to them by way of apology.
They said the matter would be dealt with internally and severe disciplinary measures taken.
The name of the company and the driver was withheld in the reports.

What!? A fruit basket!? Just a fruit basket!?

No Brands Essence of Chicken????!!!!

This clueless company rep may as well have just turned up at visiting time with a bottle of Lucozade.

IMHO nothing in Thailand really says I'm sorry quite like a 12-pack of Brands. NOTHING!

A leading lawyer called Decha said that in this case the driver could be prosecuted for being insulting in public.

"insulting in public." is this really a law ?, or just something

that this leading lawyer made up.

Hello Thailand law makers.

Do you really wanna change the drivers behavior?????

Do you really wanna make the streets safer????

Its so simple: Adopt Swiss traffic laws and enforce them.

Big money people get a huge fine.

I know about a speeding case of a Benz driver, he had to pay 27,000,000 Baht.

That will do and help to remember how to behave on the road.

Intentionally blocking the Ambulance is called 'Passive Aggressive' behavior.

"fines of 500 baht were useless"

Authorities setting Fine on what they think people can afford is called 'Thai-ness'.

Benz owners think they are hiso and can do what they like. How often we see them going slow in the fast lane and refusing to pull over. I hope he needs an ambulance himself some day.

I suppose it is the same thing as the same type of driver who thought he was entitled to a discounted happy meal and decided to hit the servers...

Not to worry the Thai Social Justice Warriors got this.. 5555

The world is going mad ... a few days ago someone told me that there is an increasing trend in the Netherlands that ambulance helpers are getting physically attacked.

I couldn't believe it, but true ... https://nltimes.nl/2018/04/10/suspects-violence-dutch-emergency-workers

Some people must be seriously f$# up in their minds if they make no space for ambulances, give them a finger ... or even physically attack them.

In The Netherlands it's often Muslims who get angry if male ambulance personnel touches a Muslim woman in need. Man can't touch woman unless married or closely related (e.g. father, brother) in Islam. Makes it difficult for ambulance personnel to help Muslim woman in need if they're not female themselves.

In Sweden its even worse, often ambulance personal need a police escort when entering some minority areas.

the law says a month in jail, WELL CARRY IT OUT THEN ,none of this *i am so sorry <deleted>* they need a shock to their system. that will teach this pos a lesson, as said before one day it might be him in an ambulance, and the way these merc drivers think they own the road, it wont be very long , forget the fine,as this is nothing to them, let it be known from now on, its a few weeks in the cooler, they will think twice then

I agree. I'm not normally one for vigilante justice or wanting to lynch someone for committing a social faux pas, but this kind of behavior is selfish, boorish and disgusting in the extreme. Words fail to describe what a lowlife human being one must be, to do something like this. In particular, during a crisis situation like the current one.

I'm particularly sensitive toward making sure I don't do or say anything that could cause offense, given the trying times we're in. Of course I would never act like this entitled <deleted> during normal times either, but now is an especially bad time to be trying stunts like this.

He needs to be punished severely, and perhaps a new law passed to punish behavior like this more severely. Simply not moving out of the way for an ambulance is one thing (some people don't pay attention or don't have good hearing) but this is something else altogether. The driver not only knew there was an ambulance trailing him, but he wanted to start a fight. In no civilized country could you get away with something like that.
