90% sure it was a boilerroom scam, prolly some braindead ponzi sheme with victims in china and "forex trading" is way too nice of an abbreviation. All we know is that it wasn't in any way a legitimate company or they would be licensed in China. Just a bunch of scammers most likely.

Stock trading doesnt need a work permit.. 

Forex trading (and I am told commodity trading) apparently does.
