Thailand set to welcome 39 million tourists

So many arrivals/tourists that TAT has had to promote the super sale during high season, the three phases of eat shop spend, and free Visa upon arrival for numerous countries. TAT needs to admit that domestic and international tourism are in the toilet.

Despite strong Baht tourists are still coming...people are willing to pay anything to come to Thailand!

Its tourists coming to Thailand that makes the Baht exchange high.

A matter of supply and demand. 39 million all bringing in 20,000B a condition of entry into the Kingdom.

What little credibility TAT has/had is gone. They make up these bulllshiittt numbers so that people will think that Thailand is still a happening place and will want to get in on the fun. It's obvious to everyone but the blind that there are very few tourists. Any potential tourists only need to do a cursory check on the internet to learn what the real story is.

Most of my friends cancelled their trip to Thailand because the Thai Baht is too strong and everything is so pricey. Many divert the holiday destination to Vietnam.

I've been here many years, the price of Thai goods are very cheap in term of Baht, but can be 4 times the amount in your own countries money. Ten years ago the £/B was 78B now 39B/£.

"set" to me implies "ready" or "prepared".... like "ready... set... go..."

Maybe "set" to take money, but "set" to provide infrastructure, services, help?

How are the lines at immigration at Swampy these days? Did they install more lanes to be unmanned?

Buy some cattle prods for crowd management at Bali Hai pier?

I don't think people who want to come to Thailand look at the exchange rate. They have a return flight money they want to spend and thats it. Its when they get here and find out how little the money they have to spend doesn't go far.

                              Cadbury!

You wrote that you arrived in Hanoi last week. So, are you talking about

immigration in Hanoi, or what?! I know what you mean, but please, check

                     your writing before sending.

                     Have a nice day!

39 million arrivals does not mean 39 million tourists. I have been out of the country three times this year and obviously come back again three times. I am not a tourist, but I have been counted three times, and i am not alone. You only need to visit any of the genuine tourist areas to see that tourism most definitely is not up.

Haven't done the full analysis but this is equivalent to (roughly) 203 to 204 Airbus (largest passenger plane) arrivals per day which is an increase on 196 or 197 for last year. Anyone here like to work that out in terms of other more realistic arrival aircraft?

Exactly, and my suspicion is that they are counting arrivals for those who land in BKK to then fly to neighboring countries such as Vietnam.
