Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha agrees with the decision by the National Hazardous Substances Committee (NHSC) on November 27th to delay the enforcement of the ban on paraquat and chlorpyrifos for six months and to allow controlled use of glyphosate, because there are still residual stocks in the possession of farmers and traders, estimated to be worth as much as 10 billion baht.

Industry Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said today (Tuesday) that he had reported to the Prime Minister about the need to postpone the ban that he had agreed with the committee’s judgement, noting that the Government cannot afford to pay compensation in case stocks of the three substances are seized and destroyed.

Mr. Suriya, who is also NHSC chairman, insisted that the committee’s resolution to delay the ban is legal, adding that Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul did not comment during the cabinet meeting today, when he reported to the Prime Minister about the committee’s resolution, adding that issue was over.

Maybe someone should remind our esteemed General/PM that Section 44 doesn't exist anymore.

'delay the enforcement of the ban' - does this mean in reality there is now a ban, but as per normal they won't bother to enforce the law?

The other thing is, does this 'delay' while stocks are allegedly run down, at the same time prohibit the import of these chemicals, or will we be on the same merry-go-round in six months time?

Did the righteous democratic capitulate under the weight of large foreign business and government?

Just ban imports then next year ban their use.    Who ties these people's shoe laces ?

The Government knows it needs the support of the Farmers,

which is why they give them so many handouts, so the Farmers

and lobbying from big chemical companies, and the Government

has done a U-Turn,just as I predicted would happen, when the ban

was made public.

The government can't afford to pay compensation if it seizes stocks of chemicals? Yet it is likely to pay billions of Baht to Kingsgate for seizing their gold mine, when they arbitrate on it. So I'd have thought a few barrels of chemicals would present little problem to these 'Little Seizers'.

It's likely Kingsgate will eventually be paid compensation, in about 20 years time if they're lucky!

Gutless or he has shares in the chemical company.
