Rumors flew yesterday that a luxury liner on a Gulf of Thailand cruise had hit rocks in Pattaya Bay.

The suggestions were made by fisherman who saw the 43,188 ton "The World" make an unscheduled stop two nautical miles offshore between the Royal Cliff Hotel and Koh Larn.

It was a false alarm. The captain of the ship had decided to drop anchor as there were one to two meter waves in the vicinity and it was felt this might be uncomfortable for passengers.

It had stopped in waters that were deep enough.

There were 147 passengers and 293 others aboard the Bahamas registered vessel. The ship had come from Singapore and was on a trip taking in Koh Samui, Koh Koot and Hua Hin.

Yesterday authorities in Pattaya were contacted to allow passengers to disembark to the Bali Hai port and enjoy a night out in Pattaya before the ship continued on its way to Hua Hin.

Sophon reported that it is hoped many luxury liners will visit Pattaya in the future.

guessing the waters were not deep enough after all if it hit rock !!

What´s important here? That there is rocks in the water, or that a captain of a cruise liner drive over them?

Total nonsense !

Whats the meaning of that squiggly sign just ahead of the side thruster warning?

Seen it on many occasions, always wondered what it meant

This ship is exactly in front of my condo. It isn't stuck on rocks. Passengers are being shuttled across to Bali hai pier. Then return later.

Yes, absolutely no truth to the rumors.

The cap'n felt a wave of nostalgia reminiscing his childhood on a sampan and made a quick stop to take a leak from the stern.

What were these others?  Some crew but hardly likely to outnumber the passengers two to one!

It's the only area near the ship you can smoke.

1 to 2 meter waves is nothing for a 43,000 ton ship.

More than likely had the Engine cooling intake clogged up with Richard the 3rd,s

Thai authorities must have given the Captain a nice sweetener to drop anchor in Pattaya, obviously trying to attract the rich tourists that TAT keep harping on about...

Classic BS excuse about 1-2 meter waves, it's a 40,000 ton vessel F F S...

Which is not bad at all. Many a time I've had a degustation thing and still after a couple of hours the craving for something more down to earth hit. Once they invent a teleport the entire male population of the planet will pop by at Pattaya for a somtum and nookie before proceeding to a fine dine establishment.
