Deputy Agriculture Minister Thammanas Phromphao said on Thursday (Decembeer 19) that he will meet with officials of the Ministry of Finance, the Government Lottery Office and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BACC) next week to discuss the Pracharat Rubber Pillow project.

“This project aims to produce 30 million rubber pillows valued at Bt18 billion to distribute to poor people nationwide,” he said. “The Marketing Organization for Farmers (MOF) will be responsible for manufacturing the pillows, while the Agriculture Ministry will handle the distribution to people at one pillow per household.”

Thammanas further added that the Bt18 billion fund will be provided by BACC in the form of a loan. He expects the project to start early in 2020 and to help rubber farmers release their products in stock at reasonable prices, as part of the government’s urgent measures to boost the grassroots economy.

“To pay back the loan, I will propose to the Cabinet that MOF holds charity lotteries for the public around early 2021, which should raise enough money to pay back the principal as well as interest to the BACC,” said Thammanas. “The Government Lottery Office will responsible for the issuance of lottery tickets, which could be branded ‘help rubber farmers’ to attract buyers who want to try their luck for a good cause.”

Better check if anything is hidden in the pillows if they're for export.

On Lazada a Latex pillow costs 300THB, so it's more like 9 billion THB value. But this is the sale price, the real value is maybe 6 billion THB.

They want a 18 billion loan to produce pillows worth 6 billion.

I wonder in whose pockets the remaining 12 billion will end up.

Perhaps being a politician in Thailand is more lucrative than being a drugs smuggler!

Should spend more time trying to organize and promote the sale of Thai latex products abroad, with the upcoming ban on Roundup, they could start thinking about organically produced latex.

Amazing how this guy has the front to say anything at all. His credibility must be just about zero. Friends in high places I suppose. Just amazing.

"try their luck"

Using gambling to fund a government program. Who'd thought this government had any moral compass.

How can this be legal? But if it is, then the government should allow carnival games of luck that it recently shutdown!

Nice ring! Friend's (borrowed last month, died last week)? Mum's (she's dead too)? Pity about the pic though. Once again just needs to turn a little bit and we could see right through one ear and out the other. One pillow per houshould...what can you say. These idiots never cease to amaze.

Hmmm... Bt18 billion/Bt30 million = Bt600 for 1 pillow.  OUCH that's expensive!  To justify the exorbitant cost I'm guessing the Agriculture Ministry will present each 'free' pillow to each poor farmer on a golden velvet pillow in a typical over the top televised Thai ceremony. ????????????????????

Again some people who will increase their already great wealth, and many poor people who will have nothing to eat even after this "gift"!

It was exposed (on these pages) a year or so ago that (some) pillows produced here contain a radioactive ingredient. I'd stay clear of them.

(A South Korean couple were stopped on their return home by a radioactive scanner triggered by pillows purchased here.)
