With a Girl Like You - The Troggs

Oh, how I loved this song as an 11 year old!

I want to spend my life with a girl like you,
Ba ba ba ba bah ba ba ba ba

We used to belt that out at school. Such powerful singers in those days. All we had were transistors, but, by golly, those voice would boom out!

British female blues guitarist, Jo Ann Kelly, covering Robert Johnson's '36 classic Come On In My Kitchen off of her '69 eponymous LP.

Wonderful music, Tippers. When i first tried to play blues guitar way back there was a Steffan Grossman series on Kicking Mule records you could buy by post. It had guitar tab and Jo Ann Kelly was featured as one of the singers on the instructional cassettes. A tremendous voice, sadly, she was gone far too soon. And of course, there is her brother, Dave. Still playing, I believe.

River Deep Mountain High. - Ike & Tina Turner.

What a production Hoylake! Phil Spector at his best.

Since this thread's been reborn we're now allowed to include 80s stuff.

One of Dave Mason's songs that the rest of the band didn't appreciate apparently. Psychedelic pop, a bit like The Floyd's first two singles.

Nothing wrong with being happy.

I had never heard of Jo Ann Kelly before.  It wasn't until I played the Mississippi Fred McDowell and Jo Ann Kelly tune When I Lay My Burden Down.  Since it was performed in London and her name didn't appear to be African-American I assumed she was from the UK.  Yeah, amazing blues voice for a white chick.  So I decided to check her out.  Fantastic artist.

Here's another excellent track off of her '69 LP, Louisiana Blues.

She could almost pass as a black female singer.  The giveaway is her pronunciation of words.  She "talks white."

Muddy Waters with Louisiana Blues.  Not sure of the date.

Savoy Brown did a great blues rock version of the song on their '69 Blue Matter LP.

Wow, I didn't notice the change to include the 80's.  Thanks for pointing that out, bannork.  That opens up a whole lot of other material.
