There's no fixing stupid! Thai gold shop robber goes back to sell the loot where he stole it from

It may be only January 2nd but here at Thaivisa we think we already have a strong candidate for dumb Thai criminal of the year 2020.

Meet Seuppong Wongboriphat - aged 36. Here is his story....

He told police that he had gone to Bangkok to open a coffee shop but the economy being the way it is, it was not a success.

So he decided to go home to mum in his home province of Sisaket in Thailand's north east.

There things were tough - he had no work and no money. So he decided to rob a gold shop on December 5th.

He got away with five baht weight in gold (worth a little over 100,000 baht) from the Yaowarat shop in Uthum Pornphisai district.

He went to 8 different gold shops in the area to cash in his loot but none of them would give him the full value.

With the financial demands of new year approaching he decided that the only way he would get his asking price would be to go back to the shop he stole from.

After all, they wouldn't remember him after nearly four weeks had elapsed.

Wrong.

The owner of the show recognised him immediately and kept him talking while the cops were secretly called.

Seuppong is now in custody.

Daily News reported that he had just got out of prison in November after facing a drugs charge.

Theft is punishable! Fortunately not stupidity! After all, the prisons are already overcrowded.

I am sure he was sure he is smarter than everybody else...

Not the sharpest tool in the box, fancy trying to sell it back to where he stole from.

The Gold would have had a mark of the shop on it as well,

wanted full price on stolen gold, greedy as well as stupid.

No  its  worse than that, they drive amongst us

Gold prices hardly vary from shop to shop, not only stupid but greed was the catalyst to his capture...all for the sake of a few hundred baht....must be a face thing I suppose

Or rather...must be a farce thing.

Well as i do tend to follow and enjoy the general stupidity of Thai criminals,i think this even beats the burglar last year who fell asleep in the house he broke into, and the owner strangled to death.

There should be some sort of Darwin Awards for criminals removing themselves from society.

Curious why the shops wouldn’t pay him the value of the gold. The price is posted daily in every shop.

This is how these dodgy gold shops operate they sell you something telling you inflated value then when you sell to them they tell you it is worth much less.  They all collude the same too as evidenced by the eight shops.  They should be jailed as well as him.

Maybe saving gasoline? He would have Ben better off trying to ask for a reward for its return.

It's worse than you think, they drive mini-vans, public transport buses and tour buses.

Some are wearing RTP uniforms! Some sit in government jobs...but yes, they walk among us for sure!

Congratulations

I have always believed that doing drugs affects your brain. Here is proof.

Glad that stupidity was also a factor with this guy. Most thieves are not too smart

that is why the police are able to catch the majority of them.

Geezer

This guy comes a very close second.................

Nothing to do with education, it just basic stupid....

Even if he thought they might not recognize him, it appears he never considered that the store owner may recognize the gold piece(s) that were missing and might ask some questions about it.
