rooster59
BREAKING: 100 tourists evacuated after fire sweeps through Jomtien condo Image: 77Kaoded 100 tourists were evacuated after a fire broke out a condominium in Jomtien early on Sunday morning. Fire and rescue workers attended the scene at around 5am on Sunday. Thai media reported there was mass panic among residents at the condo with many unable to find a way to escape from the building. Some residents could be seen on their balconies screaming for help, 77Kaoded reported. The fire alarm went off as intended but was ignored by some residents who say it often goes off, with others believing the alarm was a drill. Some residents required hospital treatment for smoke inhalation. Firefighters said the blaze started in room 709 on the 7th floor. An investigation is under way to establish what caused the fire. This is a developing news story. Its just a matter of time before a tragedy happens with Daily Rental anywhere in the world. Short term stayers that are being put in accomadations completely unknown to them. No safety regulations or insurance. No proper fire alarms, sprinkler- or other firefighting systems and no properly trained staff on site to evacuate them. champers
5am on Sunday there would be a few drunken revellers hard to wake up. I hope everyone gets out safe and sound. There could be some challenging insurance issues.

PatOngo
I'll bet they wished they had stayed over the hill in the world class resort, but then again, when open sex acts on the beach, it's hard to work out where is safe to stay!

gaikhao
The disorganized approach, the lack of proper equipment etc. is troubling. However, the courage and bravery and willing to self sacrifice of the Thais is impressive. How those workers were able to withstand the putrid toxic smoke without benefit of protective gear is incredible. I think this is mostly a Russian occupied building, and many of the tenants/guests are Russian so they don't panic easily which accounts for the relative calmness of the farangs.

So if it was a "tourist" in a condo, likely an AirBnB. BTW, article says condo, not hotel
