PHNOM PENH: At least 24 people were killed and 23 injured after a building in Cambodia collapsed, trapping workers under rubble, officials said on Sunday.

 

The seven-storey concrete building collapsed on Friday in the coastal town of Kep, about 160 km (100 miles) southwest of the capital Phnom Penh.

 

It came a year after another construction site collapsed, killing 28 people in Preah Sihanouk province.

They dont care  just minor collateral damage as in many countries

Travelling around Asia, I am always appalled at the sight of bamboo scaffolding, workers in flip flops and a few sticks of rebar protruding out of a concrete column.

Little wonder why these buildings sometimes collapse.

 

Regrets (but not surprised) to read of one more construction collapse here.

Sad to report that Reuters says death toll is now 36. It's hard to look at the photos of the concrete floors literally collapsed one upon the other. Shockingly poor construction practices.

As of 11:40 a.m on 5 January, authorities have found 59 victims under the rubble; 36 deceased (14 females).
Kun Kim, first vice president of National Committee Disaster Management, announced to close rescue operation.

Payout $50,000 to families of the dead, $10,000 to those injured.

The owners have been brought in for questioning.

<deleted> is all that wire? thats not how you build a reinforced concrete building. it looks like these people didnt have a clue what they were doing, and the great dictator looks like my doddery old neighbor whos always threatening people
