Taxi driver killed in crash after he passes out while driving

A taxi driver was killed when he lost consciousness on the Dindaeng tollway while driving, leading to the taxi crashing into concrete barriers and flipping over.

 

Taxi driver Manas Mapradit, 59, was found dead in the car while a passenger was trapped inside. A rescue team extricated her from the wreck and took her to Piyavate Hospital.

 

During interrogation, the injured passenger revealed that the taxi driver had told her he suffered from some health symptoms but she did not realise what it was until he passed out while driving resulting in the vehicle crashing into barriers.

Yet he was still driving daily and in possession of a valid licence to drive a public service vehicle?

Makes you feel really safe out there doesn't it!

That's it. Maybe he had heartburn. He just knew something wasn't 'right'. It would have been nice if he had taken himself out of the ranks that day, but you know, he probably needed the money.

Try getting a licence in Australia to drive a taxi, very strict including a complete medical!

I use taxis often in Bangkok and find most drivers safe, competent and friendly. Getting a taxi may be another story however....

Nothing new, taxi from Swampy to Jomtien and the driver was in every lane but the one he was supposed to be in, the wife asked if he wanted to stop and I would drive. "No I'm fine". I always try to take the Jomtien Bus but no guarantee the bus driver's not going to nod off.

Just had this with an AOT minivan driver a few weeks ago, had to observe him all the way to swampy, extremely stressful. Nothing here is safe.

Having said that, the passenger was being asked questions in a formal situation.

Had a co-worker that would loose consciousness whenever he gets into a coughing fit.

Once he plowed into the side of a house. He and everyone assumed he fell asleep at the wheel.

Another time he went off the road into a farmer's field. He assumed he was as distracted.

Finally one day at work, we were discussing a project. He stood up, started coughing and toppled. He just laid on the floor, eyes open. We called out to him and hot no response. We were about to start CPR when he came to. Just afew seconds and he had no recollection at all.

Lucky he never killed anyone while driving.

In Victoria Australia yes Uber drivers do need a to do a 3 year medical when renewing their Taxi accreditation , exactly the same requirement for a taxi driver , if you are a taxi driver you can drive an uber car and if you are an uber driver you can drive a taxi

Same with Singapore, one small transgression brings severe punishment, second transgression and license to drive taxi cancelled for life.
