Police in Sri Racha on Thailand's eastern seaboard have said they are looking for a sadistic and cold-blooded mafia style gang after a Chinese woman was found murdered in a travel bag by rocks at Bang Phra beach.

The victim was doubled up inside a black bag with red pattern. She was aged under 30.

Her head was bound in yellow cloth tape, wrapped in a bin bag and secured with nylon rope.

She was wearing a khaki top, black shorts and white Onitsuka trainers on her feet.

Her feet and legs were bound with cable ties.

Chief Petty Officer First Class Udom, 45, found the bag by rocks while out walking on Friday and looked inside. He was shocked and thought it was a mannequin at first until he called a friend over and it was confirmed this was the corpse of a woman.

Daily News did not explain how police knew that the victim was Chinese.

Pol Col Anukarn Thammawijan of the Sri Racha police said this was clearly a sadistic and cold blooded murder. He suspects mafia connections.

Missing persons lists are being examined as they try to determine who the dead woman may be.

@Geoffggi Good  in bad ones out - That's the majority....

And how do you figure that comment fits for this news?

Do you know things about this? Do you know it´s a tourist that has been killed? Do you know how many Chinese woman that lives in Thailand? Do you know anything about the gang or the criminals? Are they from another country, or are they Thais or Chinese living in Thailand?

...how did they know she was under 30.

I immediately thought to the biometric system.  Fingerprint the deceased, match it to immigration records, and there's your ID.

i thought they would have offered up this method of ID to promote the biometric system, but they didn't.

Perhaps a lot of illegal Chinese entries here now.

All good questions.  Sadly, some family, somewhere, possibly in China, will probably never get the answers.

Of course, they could arrest a Burmese guy and charge him with the murder, to appease the Chinese tourist market.

...well they should be sitting on their hands and be saying nothing until after they have arrested some persons...geez!

An important detail that the journalist should have pressed for an answer.

It's in the early stages of an investigation... why should the police be obliged to tell journalists everything so that you can read it here?

If that's the case, why not describe the victim as "an Asian female?"

Why disclose she is Chinese, and then refuse to elaborate on that conclusion?

Because if they believe that she was Chinese someone might have information regarding a missing person and come forward.

Other than that they don't wish to divulge any more information to the public at this stage!

Further details will emerge as they are known and verified... instead of speculation at the moment !

Maybe they are the ones speculating she's Chinese.

What if they are wrong?

Doesn't do much for having people come forward with a missing person report.

It seems to be important here to report Nationality.

Save you all the guesswork and theories

The husband was arrested yesterday, Sunday 12th; he is Taiwanese, she is a Chinese national.

Solved.

Solved, or did they just arrest the most likely suspect?  Honest question, not a statement.  My Thai reading skills are sub-par.

It makes sense to arrest the guy, if only to grab his passport so he can't flee before they finish the investigation.

Easy to say after the event.

How did they know at the time?  Why wouldn't they say?

Once again, why not say how they came to that conclusion?

Was it the biometric system.  The biometric system isn't exactly a secret here.
