Between this and climate change, all we can do is hide under the bed and never come out.

From a survivalist forum I am watching ....

There has already been a case in my state. We cancelled a trip to the same city where it was diagnosed. Tomorrow I have a list of things to do:
-Get extra gas cans
-Some plywood to build a noise reduction barrier for the generator
-A trip to Costco
-drain, clean, and refill the cistern
-fix a flat tire
-put eyes on all masks and ammo I have around

For the tabletop, If the roads were going to be shut down and we were locked down, the only thing that would change for me is I couldn’t go to work. Wife and kids are already home most of the time. Not much would change. I’d get the radios and rifles staged. I live in a small town but people get weird when they get hungry.

If things got really weird I’d have to talk to the neighbors about blocking off the road with a few of our many cars.

If things got worse We’d have to start a block watch. And I’d have to start watching the neighbors.

I’ve been looking a some property on a nearby island. It’s looking more appealing.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus?

  • runny nose
  • headache
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • fever
  • a general feeling of being unwell

Everything but the fever is a daily thing with the pollution.

You should avoid contact with anyone who has recently visited Wuhan, as well as avoiding contact with anyone who displays flu-like symptoms, such as a cold, runny nose or sore throat.

Wow! This is great news. Means I don't have to go to work for the rest of my life. I will be compesated won't I?

Someone sneezes. "Excuse me. Have you been to Wuhan recently?"

Usual rubbish from those who have no clue at all. I mean those in charge.

and do they also have a plan with how to cope with the disappointment when the virus will be contained?

Kind of interesting -- the wife and I went out shopping today at Central Chidlom in BKK, which tends to draw a lot of foreign tourists, including Chinese, especially now during Chinese New Year Season.

Interesting because.... as best as I could see.... every single staff person there in the supermarket and eating area -- cashiers, wait staff, etc -- was wearing some kind of face mask today. And even when the air pollution was very bad last week, pretty much none of them were wearing masks inside.

So obviously concern about the virus is having more impact than the really bad air did.

I heard and then saw a Chinese group in Foodland yesterday. I couldn't help that my natural reaction was to try and get away from them. I felt incredibly guilty about it, but we don't really know what we are dealing with yet.

Had the same feeling out and around in BKK today... And my Thai wife was kind of nervously looking around as we sat in a restaurant eating, with other non-Thai Asians around.

Nothing personal against the Chinese, but for right now, I'll prefer to keep my distance.

Past few days I've noticed more and more people in the general public, not just staff, wear masks.

Seems like you could get a decent estimate with what is going on in China by 1. counting number of chinese entered since first case, 2. divide that by # in thailand infected. That would give you a ballpark on % of chinese infected.

14 day incubation - they can be here & gone in 1-5 days & 10 days later = outbreaks - untraced....

Hubei Vocational College of Bio-Technology Experiment Center
Wuhan.  Someone dropped the test tube?

A UK lab holds the Corona virus patent [in relation to certain
animals]  Who knows if it can mutate to humans.

Does this cloud have a silver lining?  Maybe TAT will realize courting the Chinese tourists has never been in Thailand’s best interest.

Instead, push BoT to force the Baht down—and watch the economy flourish again.

Sure, shortly after they stop growing sugar cane and replace the crops with Christmas trees! ????

Have you not noticed that "Thailand's best interests" are never mentioned, think $$$$$$$$$$$$$

The virus is 0.12 microns in size, good luck finding a face mask that will filter that out!

It's probably about percentages and the viral load will be part of sputum vehicle unless dry, and it's also psychological in nature- you feel you are doing something and are acutely aware of modes of transmission and the need to avoid hand to face contact and scrub up when you can and when your return home. Vigilance is important not only for your own health but to slow down and frustrate the rate of growth of this damn bundle of nucleic primordial acid.

Heard from a friend of a friend that the UK is evacuating all staff from diplomatic missions in China and that they are packing up ready to go. I hope it isn't true but I have no reason to disbelieve it.  This looks to be very serious sadly.

Whole of China or just ground zero as the Americans have?

Maybe some good news coming down the line.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/coronavirus-infection-everything-need-know-outbreak-china/

Professor Robin Shattock, from Imperial College London, said his team had “two vaccine candidates” developed from the genetic sequence of coronavirus provided by Chinese scientists, and some British experts are confident that a vaccine could be available within weeks.

Prof Shattock told Radio 4’s Today programme the vaccines would be ready for use in “animal models” by the middle of next month and they were ready to “rapidly move those into human studies” if required.

That's fair enough; would be one hell of an escalation if pulling out of places further afield at the moment.

Latest FCO advice.

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/china

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to Hubei Province. If you are in this area and able to leave, you should do so. This is due to the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak. On 23 January the Wuhan authorities closed all transport hubs including airports, railway and bus stations. Travel restrictions are in place in other cities in Hubei Province. Public Health England has offered advice to travellers. You should comply with any additional screening measures put in place by the local authorities. For more information and advice, visit the TravelHealthPro website. See Health

I'm in Yala and the only farang here mostly confined to barracks with a supply of face masks and hand gel. It's very safe here if the terrorists don't get you and no tourists visit. So yes bunker down here for the foreseeable. Just done saibaht with an old monk escorted by 2 Thai army in their hilux so that's me protected for the day. The muslims don't much smile though and there is no night life scene at all. Nor do Thais go out in the evening anymore think Northern Ireland in the troubles and you get a rough picture.

World Health Organization already warned face masks would not work.

Looks like the medical community is looking to anti-HIV drugs as a potential treatment for novel coronavirus.

A clinical trial is underway using anti-HIV drugs ritonavir and lopinavir to treat cases of the new coronavirus, according to an article published in the Lancet medical journal Friday. Beijing’s municipal health commission said on Sunday the drugs made by AbbVie Inc. are part of the National Health Commission’s latest treatment plan, and its hospitals have supplies of the medicine if needed.

Plus confirmed case now in Orange County CA via a traveler from Wuhan.

I cant see how they would. Chances of someone sneezing in your face are slim.

The real danger is touching stuff and then your mouth, eye, nose etc.

I reckon carrying an ethyl alcohol spray is a must....and using it every time you

touch something public like an atm keypad, train handlebar etc.

I dont mind others wearing masks as it tells me that they dont have any infection.
