Thailand misses good opportunity to show its humanity

Not only has Thailand shown it's inhumanity regarding the Cruise Ship, but also the behaviour of "Our Leader" at the recent mass killings in Korat was beyond caring or diplomatic.  I believe he should have been censored in Parlaiment for his irrational and deemeaning behavour when he visited the site.  Poor Thailand.

Just turning them away with a few supplies makes Thailand look bad, just like when the navy - allegedly - throws a few water bottles on a Rohingya refugee boat and tows it back to sea.

If they had a strict policy to shut the borders in their fight against the virus, that decision would at least be consistent. But no, they continue to let all and sundry in at airports across the country.

All the Thai resources to combat this virus thing will be needed in short order.  Giving it away,  or selling it,  isn't the best thing to do. Let the rich folk on the ship fork out from their own pocket for what they need...preferably in a land far far away.

They could have ordered holland to send an empty plane, let the cruise dock, all guests in the bus, drive it straight to the plane, push them in the plane and wave goodbye....

They would need to send more than one plane for all the guests. I doubt Holland will be covering the costs of 10 or more planes flying here and back.

The subject of the original post above, in a nutshell, discloses the essence of Thai administrative thinking:

"How can we show the world outside that we are caring?"
"How can we show the world that we are fair?"
"How can we show the world that we are welcoming?"
"How can we show the world that we are humane?"

And instead of actually being humane and doing humane things, there needs to be innumerable committee and sub-committee meetings to discuss how to look humane (etc etc) in press releases and media clips and photo calls.

The headline says it all - by being naturally inhumane, the nation missed a great opportunity to . . . "show its humanity."

EDIT: OOPS I missed out "consistent". And the way to look totally contradictory is to ban one cruise ship from docking whilst still welcoming Chinese tourists (with free visa incentives) at the airport. More committee meetings on "How can we show the world that we are consistent?" needed in a hurry, I think.

Writing on Facebook today, he described the Thai government’s decision not to allow a cruise ship to dock at Laem Chabang deep-sea port in Chon Buri province as “cruel and inhumane”, after the ship had already been turned away from the Philippines, Japan and Guam.

Cruel and inhumane is needlessly infecting potentially hundreds of thousands of citizens if this ship is harboring infected passengers. Unless they can be 100% certain, they should not be taking the risk.

Why can anyone, including any Chinese tourist fly into Thailand, with no restrictions other than those coming from the epicenter, yet a cruise ship without one documented individual case of infection be turned away?

Asking for a kind, humanitarian offering from this administration, is like asking Hun Sen to treat his people with kindness, fairness and dignity, or like asking Suu Kyi to be objective about the Rohinga issue.

Completely agree. It makes no sense, weeks after allowing thousands of Chinese air passengers to arrive without impediment, to refuse the ship permission to dock. It's hard to view this with anything other than cynicism.

Do they the capacity to quarantine and monitor the passengers?

Not allowing them to leave the ship in a port, is as awful them being sent back to sea. Seems like a no win situation.

Where was the ship from?

Any diagnosed cases on board?

Ship route did not include Thailand. Because others said No, ship decided to head for Laem Chabang. American company but Guam rejected them. Why should Thailand have the hassle?

Why did they take on more pax in Hongkong?

And they were beaten by Hun Sen. A serial killing, felonious thief, multi billionaire madman makes Thailand look morally bankrupt and totally heartless. How is that for a story?

This could have been a PR coup for the helpless army. If only they had eyes to see.

Good optics. A PR opportunity for the administration, which is suffering from a barrage of hatred and criticism from all quarters.

Or maybe just because it was the right thing to do?

Easy answer, Hun Sen hates his own peasants, but is OK with white folk

Thai government loves Chinese but hates white people.

I'm OK with Cambodia, worst that's happened to me was an immigration officer wanting 100bht for doing his job.

Not so happy with Thailand, where a Chiang Mai immigration officer wanted 25,000bht for doing his job.

We aren't talking about us, or humanity,

the subject is Thailand, a country which is driven by greed, envy and malice.

If you don't agree with everything they say, you're likely to be put in an oil drum and burned alive.
