The Broadcasting and Telecommunications Research and Development Fund for Public Interest (BTFP) is playing a key role in facilitating the development of communities.

The BTFP has provided financial support to the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission project to create educational and trading opportunities, as well as promoting ecotourism for people in Pilok community, Thong Pha Phum district in Kanchanaburi province.

BTFP director Niphon Jongwichit said that national development in modern times needs to be developed thoroughly, especially communities in many provinces or remote areas. Also, it requires technology that plays an important role in people's lives, especially the high-speed internet.

“Previously, the NTBC has continued the project to develop Universal Service Obligation (USO) internet service in over 3,920 villages nationwide to enable people in marginal areas to access the telecommunication services as well as utilising the technology for education, generating income and developing tourism in community,” he said

“Pilok community is a new ecotourism destination in Thailand, so we believe that digital literacy centre will promote people in the community to use technologies and internet services effectively.”

He explained that the digital literacy centre in Pilok community has promoted high-speed internet access at least 30/5 megabits per second with at least two personnel to create at least 20 learning media, published in the website and online media.

“The digital literacy centre will train community leaders at least three times to develop digital literacy skills to transfer knowledge to people in the community to develop economy and tourism in the area,” he said.

“Also, this digital literacy centre in Pilok community will be a model to develop other villages within the USO internet service area in the future.”
