Russia is trying to help Trump win in 2020, lawmakers warned

Wow dude sorry but foreigners have no business interfering in our elections and imo politicians who solicit such interference are traitors or at the bare minimum derelict in their oath to protect the constitution

The thing is Trump supporters use words like "interference" to equate open advocacy of a particular candidate with the surreptitious and dishonest support of a country like Russia. If Putin openly advocated for Trump, that would be an electoral negative. So instead he resorts to disinformation.

Now me, of course being a deplorable, uneducated, ignorant, rascist, sexist, cultish, xenotransveganphobic who wants Amurca to be a white christian nation where women are handmaids is totally influenced by Russian facebook ads to the point that I will vote for anyone who the Russians say. Today Trump, tomorrow Vlad! 63 million Russian robots waiting for their master to order us about!

I guess all those adjectives depends largely where your loyalty stands. If you are pro Russian, then you are most likely intelligent freedom fighter, doing his best for the motherland.

If however you are pro USA, then you, the robot, have done great deal of harm by disuniting country and made it in war within itself. I guess one could call such actions as treasonous, if done professionally.

Breaking up large and powerful countries is a dangerous business. Had Ukraine not given up her nukes when SU dismantled itself, the situation in Crimea and Eastern-Ukraine could be quite different at the moment.

Could be true, but what Dems really hate is that Trump is using his outstanding performance as President to influence the 2020 election:  Record employment, especially among minorities, booming economy, immigration reform, etc, etc.

So it could be true.

So let’s ignore it?!

You think Putin is a socialist? Wow.

I didn't state that I think that Blue Muton..........your getting me mixed up with "unnamed secret sources. who spoke on condition of anonymity"........ :coffee1:

Seriously through  BM.....I am an Brit/Oz and don't have a dog in the race...my rant was more about the state of the news sources in America that years ago I did respect......through their early reporting on the Vietnam war, and other conflicts----the Brit papers are also full of their own secrete sources in the last 10 years, so there not alone.  To print something like this after 3 years of the Muller report reluctantly saying there was nothing there. Its just worse than bad journalism.

A few Random thoughts...

While many will take the report at face value, it would seem to me that if the Russians truly wanted to assist the re-election of Trump, they could do so in a more covert manner.

An alternative explanation could be that the Russians are making their efforts visible to the intelligence community in an effort to further destabilize the election by sowing the seeds of discord and hoping the Democrats will take the bait and begin another investigation or similar disruptive practice.

A scenario like this could do great damage to the election process and what remains of our democratic process.

Another factor coming into play here would be Russia's competition with China. Trump has been largely anti-China in regards to trade, while Bloomberg is reported to have strong ties to China, via his media corporation and other businesses. I can see Russia supporting Trump not because they approve of him, but view him as a smaller threat to their economy than a Bloomberg presidency.

I can get that but for clarification Mueller's report certainly didn't say that there was no Russian interference, rather that he found insufficient evidence of Trump and his lackeys colluding with them because they had an incomplete picture of what happened due to communications that were encrypted, deleted or unsaved, as well as testimony that was false, incomplete or declined.

In fact the report went on to conclude the report stated that Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election was illegal and occurred "in sweeping and systematic fashion". Not exactly concluding that there was "nothing there".

You're right about the press and I agree it is worse than bad journalism, it is simply propoganda on behalf of the priviliged owners, in the case of the UK the majority of whom are neither British citizens nor taxpayers.

I am more or less laughing at the thought of Russians weaponizing social media. If that's the case pretty much every other nation on the planet weaponizes social media to work against Trump. Russia and Russians can say what they want on the internet if I am required to suffer the Australians, and British and their take on things.

Aren't they just being influencers? How is Greta any different weaponizing her agenda to change the USA elections?

Do influencers have people generating fake news stories and use bots to push these stories?  Do influences hack into the servers of political organizations?

Funny to read this. I recently asked some Russian friends why Russia wants Trump to win the elections to such an extent that they interfere with the US elections. They burst out laughing, and said the idea is beyond lunacy. That nobody has been as hard on the Russians as Trump and that their economy is really suffering. They were at a total loss as to why this idea is repeatedly floated out, as it is complete nonsense.

As said before. It is an excuse for dreadful election performance by you know who. And will be trotted out again in November as an easy excuse for the gullible.

I dare one poster to offer a credible reason why Russia would want the guy who has been the hardest on them to win? Any takers?

The Mueller Report means nothing, and will remain nothing  as long as it has pages like this.

If Barr gets the boot will this stuff see the light of day?  I doubt it, but I'd like to think it's possible.
