We plan to apply for an unmarried partner visa to the UK in Bangkok. Do the documents submit to the VFS need to be original or shown their original before the staff can scan them? Do VFS staffs have responsibility to verify the documents and their authenticity?

The reason is we're waiting for bank statements sent via post from the UK over a week now. We don't want to keep waiting and they might get lost. We have the scanned version which we can print them out in colours. We're not sure if this would be a problem when submit our documents at the VFS and pay for the scanning service.

Thank you

Unless it's changed recently it must the original bank statements.

When I done my wife's visa extension 18 months ago I downloaded them but still needed to take them into a branch to get them stamped.

My wife has been granted 2 visitor visas in the last 2 years. My bank statements were download from my online account, both times printed in black and white, accepted on both occasions.

VFS verify nothing, as they have no influence over the visa decision. My wife's blue book was translated into English, as was my yellow book and marriage certificate. I she submits her bank statements make sure the bank print them in English.

Good luck.

To be honest I'm not sure what VFS's take would be on scanned docs, or even if they'd notice.
But as Roo rightly indicates, their role is only to scan and send if the applicant requires them to do so.
Given that applicants can upload supporting evidence themselves, I suspect VFS's role in identifying fake doccuments is somewhat limited, ECO's are trained to identfy the authenticity of evidence.
